Adeline Herzog, age 88, of Howards Grove, died Sunday evening, March 22, 2015 at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center surrounded by her loving daughters. She was born October 21, 1926 in the Town of Rhine to Hieronymus L. and Ida B. (Groene) Meyer. She graduated from Elkhart Lake High School in 1944 and Sheboygan County Normal School in 1946. On June 5, 1948 Adeline and Hilbert Herzog were united in marriage at St. Peter Evangelical & Reformed Church, Town Rhine. Adeline taught at Hull's Crossing School upper grades until 1952 and then became a devoted homemaker to raise her family. When all her children were in school she worked part-time jobs and enjoyed her large garden, canning and freezing her produce. In 1974 she worked in the H.C. Prange Bakery Dept. and later Younkers until July 24, 1998 when she retired to take care of Hilbert who had Parkinson's and other health problems. She enjoyed her work, especially working on Wedding cakes and Holiday cakes. She enjoyed making special cakes for birthdays, graduations, confirmations, and making her own Bible cake for her 50th Wedding Anniversary. She enjoyed making cakes for family and friends. The couple celebrated 57 years of marriage in 2005. She was a member of the former Faith United Church of Christ in Erdman and served as a teacher and Superintendent of Sunday school. She also was a member of the Ladies Aid and served as President for many years. She then joined Our Shepherd U.C.C. in Howards Grove after Faith closed. She enjoyed helping when needed and taught Sunday school at times and enjoyed serving snacks and juice during Bible school. She was a member of the Women's Fellowship and made the coffee for the chicken and chili dinners. For over 50 years she was a member of the Kupfahl-Meyer-Scheib Unit #387 of Franklin and the Sheboygan County Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteering at the Howards Grove Senior Center on Tuesdays and was a member of the Howards Grove Tigers Senior Dartball team and enjoyed participating in the county league. She was also a member of the Cleveland Seniors for many years and enjoyed the day trips they sponsored. She was a leader in the Herman Cheerios 4-H Club since 1962 and was gardening superintendent in the 4-H building and was a caller during the breakfast hours at the Sheboygan Co. Fair. She enjoyed checking and recording books and choosing 4-Her's for special awards. On May 4, 1999 she and Hilbert received the 4-H Alumni Award for outstanding leadership in 4-H and its members. On December 2, 1999 they received a citation from the Wisconsin Assembly presented by Steve Kestell for their 4-H work in Sheboygan County. The family enjoyed hosting 4-H exchange students from 7 different states and became close friends with their families. She and Hilbert enjoyed bus trips all over the United States and in later years day trips hosted by the Cleveland Bank and the Cleveland Senior Center. Adeline enjoyed her children and grandchildren's special school and sporting events and was very proud of the accomplishments. She dearly loved them and they were her pride and joy. Hibert preceded her in death on June 15, 2005. Adeline is survived by three daughters, Nancy (Lee) Henschel of Howards Grove, Judi (Ricky) Bogenschutz of Cleveland, WI, and Heidi (Steven) Widder of Town of Sheboygan Falls; five grandchildren, Jaimie (Charlie) Simon, Brandon (Beth) Bogenschutz, Melanie (special friend, Nathan) Bogenschutz, Nicole (special friend, Jason) Widder, and Elizabeth (special friend, Aaron) Widder; her pride and joy great-granddaughter, Haley Simon; her Godchildren, Shirley Worthman (niece), and Daniel Meyer (nephew); and other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, George (Flora) Meyer, Reinhart Meyer, and Harvey (Harriet) Meyer; two sisters, Elsie (Roland) Klemme and Marie (Ebbie) Damrow; nephews, Ronald Klemme and Donald Damrow; and her niece Kathleen Lunow. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Shepherd U.C.C. in Howards Grove. Rev. Peg Feyen, Pastor will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held on Wednesday evening March 25, 2015 at the church from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Thursday morning at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery in Town of Rhine. A memorial fund will be established in her name.
