Albert Steinpreis

Albert H. Steinpreis, age 91, of Sheboygan, died Monday evening, April 3, 2017 at St. Nicholas Hospital. He was born April 26, 1925 in Sheboygan to Henry and Anna (Gorr) Steinpreis. He attended Trinity Lutheran grade school and was a graduate of Sheboygan Central High School, Class of 1943. During WWII Al served his country in the US Army in the European Theatre, earning five combat stars.
On October 11, 1947 Al and Virginia Hansen were united in marriage. She preceded him in death on August 18, 2001.
For thirty-five years Al was a firefighter with the Sheboygan Fire Department, attaining the rank of Deputy Chief, retiring in 1985.
Music was a big part of Al's life. For many years he played trumpet and accordion with various groups, including the Peptones. He also enjoyed entertaining at numerous nursing homes in the area. He was a member of the Musician's union #95 and the V.F.W. Post # 9156 where he played taps for military honors services.
Al was an avid golfer and was a member of Riverdale Golf Course and "The Legends Golf Group".
Al is survived by his daughter, Susan Steinpreis and his son, David (friend, Kathie Madden) Steinpreis, both of Sheboygan; two grandchildren, Erin Steinpreis (Casey) Ralston of Imperial Beach, California and Neil (friend, Linda Hintz) Steinpreis of Sheboygan Falls; two great-grandchildren, Cade and Ryan Swadener; his brother, Robert (Renee) Steinpreis of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; his dear friend, Ellen Schrimpf; and other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Ballhorn Funeral Chapels and Cremation Care Center. Rev. DuWayne Hanke will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Full military honors will be accorded Al.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
