Armand Fermin

Armand Fermin, 81, of Sheboygan, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2014 with his wife and family at his side. He was born Armada Fermin on July 14, 1932 in Bedford, Ohio to the late Armada and Mary Jane (Vail) Fermin. Armand spent most of his childhood years in California. He served his country in the United States Army from 1951 until 1954. He then re-enlisted from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1957. Armand was part of the 7th Division 32nd Infantry 1st Battalion and the Headquarters Company 65th Battalion 25th Infantry Division. He served in Korea and other locations. Armand worked with thoroughbred race horses as a jockey, trainer, exercise rider and groom. He worked the tracks from Arlington IL, to Churchhill and Keeneland in KY, to Fairgrounds in New Orleans and Louisiana Downs. He also worked in racing in Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico and the East Coast. He was united in marriage on November 20th, 1976 to Kathryn Sullivan Keitel. Armand was considered a gentleman's gentleman by all who knew and loved him. He loved the family that he married into as his own. He was a kind, caring individual and had a soft heart for animals. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Jack "Buzz" (Ingrid) Fermin and Bill Kinney. He is further survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service for Armand will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at Oakbrook Community Church (1624 Broadway Ave., Sheboygan) with the Rev. Mario Ciotola officiating. Friends may call on Saturday, at the church, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. The family would like to extend a special thank you the staff of St. Nicholas Hospital.
