Arthur C. Sommers Jr., 93, of Sheboygan, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Pine Haven in Sheboygan Falls. Art was born July 18, 1924 in Milwaukee to Arthur Charles Sr. and Theresa (Raml) Sommers. He graduated from Kohler High School with the Class of 1942. Art then went on to proudly serve in the US Army. He was able to take the Honor Flight with his son Joseph in 2011. After serving in the Army, Art graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1952. He was united in marriage to Jeanne Helfert on November 24, 1956 in Beaver Dam. She preceded him in death on May 12, 2010.
Art was an accountant and a teacher. He taught accounting at UW Sheboygan, and was an accountant with Kohler Company for 23 years and retired from Van Der Vaart in 1985. Art was a charter member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Kohler, and the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Past Faithful Navigator. Art enjoyed playing golf and bowling. He also loved taking cruises with Jeanne after his retirement.
Art is survived by his two sons, Arthur Charles "Chuck" (Julie) Sommers III of Genoa City and Joesph E. Sommers of Sheboygan, by his grandchildren, Molly Marie (Inaki Barinaga - Ruiz) Sommers of Basauri, Spain and Arthur Charles "Charlie" Sommers IV of Genoa City, by his sisters Bernice Haack of Sheboygan and Marion Koehler of Luxemburg, by his son-in-law Andrew Lee of Snellville, GA, and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and daughter Theresa Lee.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 Greentree Rd., Kohler, with Fr. Joseph Dominic officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Woodland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus in Arthur's name.
