Arvid Cyril McGuire passed away Thursday December 17th of a heart condition at St. Marys Ozaukee at the age of 86. He was born at home in Lena Wisconsin to Ray and Lula McGuire. He attended Lena School for 12 years, St. Norbert College for 2 years before transferring to UW Madison to attend pharmacy school, graduating in 1951. He then served in the Army at US Army Hospital Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. While there, he met Mary Ellen Cotter and they were married in Chicago in 1952. In 1954, he began working for the Walgreen Company where he worked for over 40 years, retiring in 1994. After retiring, he purchased a home in El Jebel, CO, skiing and mountain biking during his retirement. He was an avid sportsmen and hunter his entire life, shooting his first buck at the age of 12. This past October he teamed up with his grandsons to take 3 geese from flock. He enjoyed spending time at the family hunting shack in Marinette County and annual hunting trips to South Dakota. He was always up for a game of cards, which he enjoyed with a good dark beer.
Arvid is survived by his wife Mary of 63 years, his 6 children Peggy (Jeff) Lubach, Nancy (Gary) Gritt, Molly (Andy) Kautz, Katie (Ken) Grizzle, Michael (Carrie), and Tom (Barb), 14 grandchildren, Maura (Tracy) Nery, Julie (Kevin) Wieck, Greg (Kamie) Gritt, John (Brooke) Gritt, Annie, Tom and Joe Grizzle, Brenna and Jane Kautz, Austin Baska, Matthew McGuire, and Michael, Ben and Jack McGuire, 9 great-grandchildren, and his brother Michael(Judy).
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Nona Gilles, brother-in-law Frances Gilles, nephew Ray Gilles, sister-in-law Ellen McGuire and his favorite dog Sadie.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday December 23rd, at 12 noon, at St. Clement Catholic Church (522 New York Avenue, Sheboygan) with the Rev. Matthew Widder as celebrant.
