Betty R. Puksich LPN

May 19, 1936 — January 20, 2023

Sheboygan

Betty R. Puksich, 86 of Sheboygan, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023 at Sheboygan Senior Community.  Betty was born on May 19, 1936 to Robert & Dora (Smith) Strickland in Headland, Alabama. On February 23, 1953 she married John R. Puksich at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Phenix City Alabama. John preceded Betty in death on November 24, 1978.  Her grandson William shares their anniversary as he was born on February 23, 1979.  Betty graduated from Lakeshore Technical College as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in May of 1981.

Betty was a nurse for Sheboygan County for 16 years until she was forced to retire from a devastating stroke after complications from a heart procedure.  Previous to that, Betty worked for J.C. Penny Co. and Wigwam Mills.  Betty liked to garden, read in her spare time, and taking family vacations with her husband and children.

Betty is survived by her children Debra (David) DeAmico, Amy (Steve) Spannagle, Maria Leubner and daughter-in-law Julie Puksich all from Sheboygan.  Betty is further survived by her grandchildren, William (Kelly) DeAmico, Jessica (Matt) Rybarczyk, Chris (Rachel) Spannagle, Jenn (Brad) Haneman, Ryan (Sally) Spannagle, David Leubner, Hilary (Chris) Collins, Thomas Leubner (girlfriend Tia), Sydney (Fiancé Kever Kersten) Leubner.  Betty has 9 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Collin & Natalie DeAmico, Brett & Ava Rybarczyk, Chase Heneman, Camden, Parker & Kinsley Collins, and Samuel Spannagle.  Betty is further survived by her sister-in-law Betty Kauger, Brother-in-laws Steve (Jackie) Puksich, and George (Lois) Puksich.  Betty is also survived by a special niece Daphne (Glen) Hughes, Phenix City Alabama, and many other nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Robert & Dora Strickland, husband John, son Michael, grandson Daniel Leubner, her sister Fannie Henrietta Strickland, her brothers and sisters-in-law Thomas & Merium Strickland, and RJ & Sophie Strickland.  In-laws Ambrose and Margaret Puksich, brothers & sisters-in-laws, Ambrose & Karen, James, Joseph, and Anthony Puksich, Louise & Bernie Neils, Marianne & Erwin Wuestenhagen, and Kathy & David Heibing.  Betty was a very strong Southern Belle who never spoke a bad word about anybody and was kind to all.   She fought her illnesses until the very end.  She will be dearly missed, but we find great comfort that we know our loving father John, our brother Mike, and our Grandpa & Grandma Strickland were waiting to take her home to her family and friends in Heaven.

Betty’s family would like to thank the staff at Senior Community for all of the wonderful care they have given to Betty over the years she was a resident in their care.  A special thank you to Renee Lindsay, LPN, for the loving care she gave to Betty.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 12:00 Noon at St. Dominic Catholic Parish, 2133 N. 22nd St. Sheboygan, with Fr. Mark Brandl officiating.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 from 11:00 Am until the time of mass at the CHURCH.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Betty’s memorial fund would be appreciated.
