Betty Welsch

Betty M. Welsch, age 91, passed away at Harvest Home Assisted Living in Howards Grove on November 11, 2015. Betty was born in Sheboygan on March 25, 1924 to the late Nels Madson Jr. and Tannie Hoogstra Madson. She attended Jefferson Elementary school and graduated from North High School, Class of 1942. She was a legal secretary in the law office of Puhr and Peters in Sheboygan. On November 10, 1945, Betty was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart, Robert G. Welsch, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. The couple was married nearly 66 years when Bob preceeded her in death on July 11, 2011. Betty's first and foremost job was that of a homemaker, raising her four children in a happy home. She loved to cook and bake and hosted holiday meals and celebrations. She also sewed garments and accessories for the home including curtains, drapes, slipcovers and quilts. She worked with her husband, Bob when they operated Dick's Club, the Welsch family bar and restaurant, from 1968-1975. Later she worked at the Dillman Law Firm until 1986. She then worked part time at Welsch Hearing Aid Company until the age of 83. Betty was a long time member of the YMCA, a charter member of the Sheboygan County Quilters Guild and Morning Stars Quilt Club, and a former member of Kettle Karvers. She was a faithful member of Luther Memorial Church and really enjoyed her church friends. She is survived by her four children: Richard (Kathleen) Welsch, Elkhart Lake, WI, Barbara (Niles) Klaves, Cleveland, WI, James (Bonnie) Welsch, Elkhart Lake, WI, and Robert Welsch Jr., Random Lake, WI. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Amy Klaves, Scottsdale, AZ; Anthony (Rebecca) Welsch, Sheboygan; Dale (Shelly) Klaves, Bayside, WI; Jonathon Welsch, DePere, WI; Sarah (Jason) Bartz, Sheboygan; Jaclyn (Chad) Stenson, Howards Grove; Abby (Jimmy) Speyer, Austin, Texas; Elise (Daniel) St.Michel, Willmar, MN; Melissa (Benjamin) Ingelse, Oostburg; Sally (Peace) Simon, Cedar Grove; Andy (Mariah Freed) Welsch, Fond du Lac; and Amanda (David) Limberg, Gibbsville; There are also 26 great grandchildren: Brady, Stefanie, and John Klaves, Bayside, WI; Preston Speyer, Austin, TX; Zoey St.Michel, Willmar, MN; Domanic Gonzales, NM; Isabella Gonzales, Sheboygan; Cheyenne Welsch, Sheboygan Falls and Adian Welsch, Oshkosh; Justin and LaTasha Jackett, Cassius and Caden Rohadfox, Sheboygan; Madelaine Bartz, University of MN, and Jacob Bartz, Sheboygan; Benjamin, T.J.,and Kaylee Stenson, Howards Grove; Brayden, Addison, Tucker, and Charlotte Ingelse, Oostburg; Jayda and Levi Simon, Cedar Grove; Ella and Dalton Limberg, Gibbsville. She will also be missed by a sister-in-law, Ramona Welsch and family, many friends and neighbors. Betty was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, her husband, Robert, her daughter-in-law, Jodi Welsch, and her faithful little white terrier, Angelina. Funeral services will be held at Ballhorn Funeral Chapels, 1201 North 8th Street, Sheboygan, WI, on Monday, November 16th, at 6:00 p.m., Reverend Matthew Peters of Luther Memorial Church officiating. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. A Memorial Fund has been established in Betty's name for Luther Memorial Church, Sheboygan, WI. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers and staff at Harvest Home Assisted Living, Hospice Advantage caregivers and Pastor Duwayne Hanke, Chaplain. A special thank you to Pastor Matthew Peters and Betty's friends and neighbors, especially Jann, Roger, and Jane who faithfully visited her at Harvest Home.
