Brenda G. Ploetz, age 66, of Sheboygan, found peace on Wednesday afternoon, February 17, 2016 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice after a courageous battle with a rare brain leukemia.
She was born March 30, 1949 in Chicago to Dr. Harms W. and Vera L. (Holle) Bloemers. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Lakeland College in 1971. Brenda taught kindergarten in Oostburg for a number of years.
On December 8, 1973 Brenda was united in marriage to David W. Ploetz. The couple moved to Houston, Texas in 1982 where they ran several successful businesses. In 1994 they returned to Sheboygan to care for family. Together they then formed Global Health Wellness Inc., a Florida based company. David preceded her in death on November 29, 1995.
Brendas hobbies included arts and crafts, baking, flower gardening, reading, spending time with her family, and adopting close friends as family.
Four years ago Brenda was lucky enough to reconnect with Rickey Schulz, her college sweetheart. With a sparkle in her eye, they enjoyed traveling and catching up with old friends.
Brenda is survived by her children, Melissa (Zach Huston) Ploetz of Sheboygan, Amanda Ploetz and Jonathan Ploetz both of Milwaukee; her sister, Barb (Doug) Gerleman of Northbrook, IL and their children, Todd (Michelle) Betke, Kevin (Kim) Betke, Laura Hartman and David (Quyen) Gerleman; her sisters-in-law, Judene (Steve) Schulz of Phoenix, AZ and Amy Ploetz of Sheboygan; her nieces, Julie (Jim) Kelly and Tami (James) Adams of Sheboygan; her nephew, Troy Olmsted of Valders; lifelong friends, Bill Osborne and Peter Gould; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Jack Jake Ploetz.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 22, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at Ballhorn Funeral Chapels. Rev. Bill TeWinkle, Pastor at Hope Reformed Church, will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
