Carol A. Mertzig, 64, of Sheboygan, WI passed at 4:30 PM Sunday February 22, 2015. She passed peacefully at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls, WI surrounded by her close family. Carol fought a long and courageous battle against cancer. She was born on April, 29th 1950 in Lake Linden, MI. to Hubert and Lucille Marchand. Carol graduated from Lake Linden - Hubbell High School in 1968 right before she moved to Sheboygan, WI in the summer of 1968. Carol began working at Kohler Company in 1968, and worked there for over 40 years before taking an early retirement in 2008. She pursued attaining a college degree in her time off from Lakeshore Technical College. Carol was asked to return to work at Kohler in 2010 and remained there until her health would no longer allow her to continue working in late 2014. She loved her job, and all her fellow employees. On April 29th, 1972 Carol married Victor J. Mertzig in Sheboygan, WI. On March 27th, 1975 she gave birth to her only child, Joshua A. Mertzig. Her son meant the world to her. Carol was very proud and supportive of her son and his many endeavors. She really enjoyed watching him perform as a drummer in many bands throughout the years. And loved to show off his talents to friends and family. In 1979 Carol and Victor made the decision to purchase their own business, RPM Speed & Custom in Sheboygan, WI. Which they continue to own and operate with their son Josh. Carol handled all of the accounting and bookwork for the business. Carol loved to visit Upper Michigan. She enjoyed taking yearly trips with her sisters and husband. She always looked forward to vacationing there and seeing her friends and family. Carol was loved by many, and will be missed by all. Survivors include her husband, Victor J. Mertzig, Sheboygan; her son, Joshua A. Mertzig, Sheboygan; her father, Hubert J. Marchand, Sheboygan; her sisters: Linda (Robert) Savela, Sheboygan, Kathy (Steve) Buttner, Howards Grove, Susie Marchand and Pam (Mike) Meissner, Kellnersville; brothers and sister-in-law: Dennis Mertzig, Orlando, Fl. Bruce (Sue) Mertzig Sheboygan Falls. Janet (James) Wuestenhagen, Sheboygan Falls; nieces and nephews include Shelley Henninger, Saukville. Rob Savela, Sheboygan. Amy (Terry) Weber, and Eric (Lisa) Specht, Howards Grove, Sara (Rick) Sherrod, AZ, Greg Brown, CO, Joe and James Harris, Manitowoc, Andy and Jake Meissner, Kellnersville, Jonathan Mertzig, Madison, Casey (Judy) Wuestenhagen, Jackson, Joseph Wuestenhagen, Minneapolis, Adam (Theresa) Wuestenhagen and Nealy Wuestenhagen, Sheboygan Falls; great nieces and nephews, Devin Weber, Paige Rastello-Weber, Faith and Payton Specht, Howards Grove, Sage, Breana and Brooke Sherrod, AZ, Samantha Wuestenhagen, Amelia, and Aubree Wuestenhagen, Sheboygan Falls. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucille C. (Morin) Marchand and her mother and fathers-in-law, Patricia (Nett) and Milo Haase. Funeral services for Carol will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. at Zimmer's Westview Funeral and Cremation Care Center (Hwy 42 & JJ, Howards Grove) with the Rev. Dan Lasecki officiating. Friends may call on Saturday, at the funeral home, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services. Entombment will take place at the Garden of Peace Mausoleum, Kohler. Carol's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Memorial Hospital, Dr. Santhosh Kumar and the staff of the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic for their care and concern. They would also like to thank the staff of Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for the superb care they gave Carol.
