Caroline E. Brendel, 87, of Sheboygan, formerly of Cleveland, passed away Monday, August 05, 2013 at Sunny Ridge Nursing Home surrounded by her family. She was born February 1, 1926 in the Town of Meeme to the late Charles and Frieda (Illig) Bender. On January 25, 1947, she married Gilbert Brendel at St. Paul United Church of Christ. He preceded her in death on September 12, 1989. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Caroline enjoyed farming, gardening, cooking and baking. She was also an avid Sheepshead and bingo player. Caroline was a member of the Edwards Homemaker Club and the Manitowoc County Farm Bureau. Survivors include four children, Darlene (Lyle) Schuricht, Valders, Dennis Brendel, Sheboygan Falls, Diane (Timothy) Keenan, Howards Grove and Dean Brendel, Elkhart Lake; nine grandchildren, Kris (Scott) Zahn, Tannor Schuricht, Jason Brendel, Jodie Brendel, Jeremy Brendel, Jackie Brendel, Joshua Keenan, Ryan (Holly) Keenan and Bradley Keenan; eight great-grandchildren, Blaec Zahn, Hannah Brendel, Laine Brendel, Wesley Brendel, Elijah Brendel, Grace Brendel, Audreyana Brendel and Egan Michael Keenan; three sisters-in-law, Edna Bender, Eleanora (Harold) Nick and LaVerne Reiss. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by three brothers, four sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John United Church of Christ, Schwarzwald (W3401 Orchard Road, Elkhart Lake) with the Rev. Robert Hamilton officiating. Friends may call on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Zimmer's Westview Funeral and Cremation Care Center (Hwy 42 & JJ, Howards Grove) from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, at the church, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Caroline's name.
