Cheryl Christine Muehleis (Roberts) age 64, of Sheboygan, passed away due to complications from ALS Monday, July 6, 2015 at Sharon S. Richardson Hospice. Cheryl was born March 17, 1951 to Jerome and Louise Roberts. She attended John Marshal High School in Milwaukee, Milwaukee Technical College and Marquette University where she received her training as a legal secretary through their law school. She worked as a legal secretary for the US Attorney, Eastern District in Milwaukee. On June 2, 1979, she married Dr. Peter M. Muehleis. Peter's military obligation in the US Navy Dental Corps took them to California where Cheryl continued on in her career with the US attorney in San Diego. Their first son, Michael, was born in San Diego in 1982 and that same year they moved to Sheboygan. Peter began his career with Midwest Dental and Cheryl remained at home, caring for Michael. Soon the urge to get back into the workforce brought Cheryl to the YMCA. She had loved her Jazzercise class in San Diego and began teaching, getting certified in spinning, kickboxing, step training and water aerobics, among others. She also taught classes at the Sheboygan Falls YMCA and Rec. Department. She also led the program for seniors in Sheboygan, Sheboygan Falls and Plymouth. Cheryl was always volunteering for something. Despite giving birth to her second son, Bryan, in 1986, she found time to be involved in local charities like Sheboygan Service Club, Meals on Wheels, Children's Museum, Heartball and fitness for people suffering from Alzheimer's disease at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls. She became quite adept at organizing auctions and benefits raising money for various organizations. She was instrumental in helping organize one of the first auctions to raise money for Lakeland College's Scholarship Fund. She co-chaired the Lutheran High Spring Auction for two years and was involved with their first Harvestfest. In November, 2011, she received the diagnosis of ALS. She continued to work, teaching her classes until December 2013, when her physical limitations could no longer permit it. Despite not being able to teach, having lost the use of her hands and arms, she nevertheless continued attending the same classes she had been teaching. Thanks to the many wonderful people she had touched over the years, they would pick her up and Cheryl would exercise what she could. More than the exercise, she became an inspiration to many, always coming with a smile or words of encouragement. After a severe fall resulting in a concussion in 2014, she needed constant observation and the family thanks Comfort Keepers for their daily visits for nearly six months. Special thanks go out to her wonderful neighbors who not only made meals and sat with her or took her out. In addition to her husband; she is survived by two sons, Michael (Monica) Muehleis and Bryan (Kristi) Muehleis; three grandchildren, Emily, Adalyn and Maksym; one brother, Paul (Jennie) Roberts and nieces, Brittiany Roberts East and Alycia Roberts. A Funeral Service for Cheryl will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church (730 County Road PPP, Sheboygan Falls) with the Rev. Tom Gudmundson officiating. Friends may call on Sunday, at the church, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, Sheboygan. Memorials should be made to the ALS Association of Wisconsin (www.alswi.org) or Sharon Richardson Community Hospice.
