Cheryl J. Spicer, 71, of Sheboygan, passed away Tuesday, June 02, 2015 surrounded by her loving family, at St. Nicholas Hospital. Cheryl was born September 13, 1943, in Peoria, IL to the late Lynn and Lilia (Benitez) Banta. She graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, IL with a degree in nutrition. On January 29, 1967, she was united in marriage to Jim Spicer in Peoria. She went on to have four children who she mentored and loved dearly. She was also a treatment foster parent for many children. Her love didn't stop there. Cheryl had a huge love for all animals, especially her German Shepherds. She and Jim founded Stonekroft Kennels and were very successful, showing dogs across the country. Cheryl was an active member of the German Shepherd Dog Club of America, the German Shepherd Dog Club of Wisconsin and the Sheboygan Kennel Club. For 34 years, she was also involved in the Sheboygan Co. 4-H Dog Project where she worked with many children and the training of their dogs. She was awarded a 4-H lifetime achievement award for her dedication and years of service. Cheryl's passion for life was greatly enhanced by her grandchildren and her love of animals. In addition to her husband, Jim, she is survived by two sons, Blaine (Kim) Spicer and Monte (Mary) Spicer; one daughter, Angela (Jon) Buesing; six grandchildren, Alexander, Dylan, Isabella, Madalyn, Maxwell and Wyatt; one brother, Lynn (Debbie) Banta. She is further survived by many family members, close friends and her beloved animals. She was preceded in death by her son, Shane and her daughter-in-law, Stephanie. A funeral service for Cheryl will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church (623 Ontario Avenue, Sheboygan) with the Rev. Kathy Reid officiating. Friends may call on Friday, June 5, at Zimmer's Westview Funeral and Cremation Care Center (Hwy 42 & JJ, Howards Grove) from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, at the church, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Cheryl's name for the American Cancer Society.
