Daniel "Dan" R. Baumann, 93, of Sheboygan, passed away Tuesday, November 03, 2015 at St. Nicholas Hospital. He was born May 24, 1922, in Wausau, to the late Alfred J. and Gertrude M. (Martini) Baumann. At age 13, the family relocated to Sheboygan. As an active member of the Boy Scouts, he achieved his Eagle Scout and served as leader. Dan was a member of the second graduating class of Sheboygan North High School in 1940. He was proud of the fact that he was an instructor for the Red Cross training competitive teams and educating the public as part of the war effort. He was an avid photographer, developing and printing his own pictures. Dan served his country in the United States Army as a medic from 1942 until 1946 achieving the rank of Technical Sergeant. He served in the European Theater at the Battle of the Bulge. After his military service, he returned to work at Phoenix Chair Company, where he met his future wife, Margaret "Margie" Abstetar. The couple was later employed at R-Way Furniture Company. Dan rose through the Time Study and Sales Departments to the office of President until he retired in 1982. He returned to the company as consultant and president from 1987 until 1989. On June 2, 1951, he married the former Margaret Abstetar at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on March 1, 2008. Dan was active as a Third Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and participated in their radio rosary. Along with his wife, they were co-presidents of the Home and School Association for Immaculate Conception School where he served as an usher for the church. Dan was an active member of the Downtown Sheboygan Rotary Club for 27 years and was a Paul Harris Fellow and was a dedicated Sergeant-at-Arms. As a part of his career in furniture manufacturing, he was honored many times for his skills as a productive and caring furniture employer including by the Mayor of the City of Sheboygan and the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. He was also a member of the Cost Club, Wood Machinery Manufacturers of America and Forest Products Research Association. He was also known for his fine woodwrought craftsmanship producing many items commercially and as heirlooms. Dan was privileged to participate in the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight on April 28, 2012. Survivors include his children, Suzanne Baumann, Chicago, IL; Dianne (Dale) Ahrens, Plymouth and their children, Ryan Ahrens (fiancée, Gretchen Ullenberg and her son, Brett), Grafton, Dannielle (Shane) Arneson and sons, Braven, Nolan and Parker Wilson, Sheboygan Falls, Craig "CJ" (Erin and her daughter, Addyson) Ahrens, Murfreesboro, TN; Gerald (Diane) Baumann, Centerville and their daughters, Darcie (fiancé Chas Dodge) Baumann and children, Landon Baumann and Calli Dodge, Manitowoc, Tamara (Jesse) Scheuren, Sheboygan, Amelia (Erick) Heling and stepson, Chase Heling, Sheboygan; Gregg (Eileen Walter) Baumann, Racine; one brother-in-law, Herb Goeden, Peachtree City, GA. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers, Virginia (Ermino) Papa, Fr. Silas Baumann, OFM Cap., Barbara Goeden and Clarence Baumann, his grandparents, Carl J. and Anna (Gassner) Baumann and Henry and Barbara (Paulus) Martini, sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann (Martin II) Jacquette, Rudolf (Mary) Abstetar, Stanley (Alice) Abstetar, Joseph (Mardell) Abstetar, Frank Abstetar, William (Helen) Abstetar and Rev. Edward Abstetar, C. S. C. and several close cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (2720 Henry Street, Sheboygan) with the Revs. Paul Fliss and Richard Cerpich as celebrants. Friends may call on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Ballhorn Chapels and Crematory, (1201 N. 8th Street, Sheboygan) from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, at the church, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
