David Ehler, 97, of Sheboygan, changed his address to Heaven, his eternal home on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Hospital. He was born June 1, 1920 in Sheboygan to Fred and Anna (Friebus) Ehler. On August 9, 1941 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Katherine Altergott, at Immanuel Evangelical Congregational Church. She preceded him in death on December 13, 1995.
David proudly served in the US Army during WWII from 1942 - 1946. He was involved in several major battles in the Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe. He worked at Vollrath and R-Way until starting his own company, Ehler's Building Service in 1953 and was the General Contractor for the first Gold Medallion all-electric home in Sheboygan. He was an active, life-long member of Immanuel Bible Church serving in many ways, even as contractor for the current building. David was active in the community as a board member of Campus Life and Christian Businessmen's Committee. He was also involved with the Sheboygan Home Builders Association and the Gideons.
David was a sweet, gentle man with never a harsh word to cross his lips. He quietly shared wisdom, and his strong faith. His trust in Jesus as his Savior was evident. He shared his talents through woodworking and created many treasures for his family. He enjoyed being outdoors, golfing and growing roses. Baking and candy making were also a passion of Dave's, and people looked forward to receiving a package of his toffee each Christmas.
2 Timothy 4:7-8 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing."
He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Carol (Earl) Lilyquist; granddaughters, Amy (John) Mason and Sara (Jon) Filteau; great- grandchildren, Noah, Luke, Jonah, Thomas, Kathryn, Seth, Simon, and Grace Mason, and Jared Filteau, who lovingly called him "Opa". He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. David was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Fred, John, Alex, and Christ Ehler and sisters Ida Gottfried, Minnie Hermann, Dorothy Matt and their spouses.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Immanuel Bible Church, 2428 Superior Ave. Sheboygan, with Pastor Curtis Lamansky officiating. Entombment will follow with Military Honors at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the CHURCH.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Campus Life in David's name.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sheboygan Health Services for all their care and support.
