David Mez

David G. Du Mez, age 74, of Sheboygan, went home to his Lord on Saturday morning, July 12, 2014. He was born March 19, 1940 in Sheboygan to Edgar and Gertrude (McDougal) Du Mez of Cedar Grove. He was a graduate of Sheboygan Falls High School, Class of 1958. He served his country in the US Air Force from 1959 to 1963, stationed at Matagorda Island Air Force Base in Texas and at Villatobas Radar Site in Spain where he was chosen as Airman of the Quarter. On July 8, 1967 David and Judith Theune were united in marriage at Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Sheboygan. For twenty-nine years Dave was employed by the Sheboygan Police Department, retiring in 1993 as Sergeant of Traffic. One of his duties included visiting the schools to teach bicycle and crosswalk safety. He also was an expert in accident reconstruction. After retirement he worked as a delivery man for Clean and Brite Laundry. Dave was a faithful, active member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church, serving as a deacon and elder. He was on the Sheboygan County Christian High School Board. For many years he served as a chairman of a voting pole in Sheboygan and also assisted with absentee ballots in the area nursing homes. Dave was an avid wood worker and loved to make children's toys. Dave was also a magician and enjoyed entertaining people of all ages. In addition to his loving wife, Judy, he is survived by his children, Daniel (Tonya) Du Mez of Town of Wilson, Barbara (David) Clevenger of Lafayette, IN, and Randal (Jody) Du Mez of Newton, WI; eight grandchildren, Samantha and Travis Du Mez, Benjamin, Megan, and Sarah Clevenger, Angelica and Deanna Rutkauskas, and Sydney Du Mez; one great-grandson, Luke; two sisters, Judith (Ronald) Joosse of Oostburg and Virginia (William) Schumann of Westerville, OH; two brothers-in-law, Jack (Marion) Theune and Robert Riemersma; one sister-in-law, Jean (Mike) Du Mez; "Grandma" Erna Ten Haken; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Jannis and Jeanette Theune and his sister-in-law, Janet Riemersma. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 18th, 2014 at Calvin Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Rick Boomsma, Pastor, will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church Thursday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Oostburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name for Sheboygan Co. Christian High School, Sheboygan Christian School, and Calvin Christian Reformed Church. Dave's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Sharon S. Richardson Hospice staff and to Dr. Matthews and his staff for their loving care.
