Deloris Heins

October 9, 1926 — March 27, 2024

Sheboygan

Deloris Miesfeld Heins, 97, of Sheboygan passed away on March 27, 2024 after a brief illness, surrounded with the love of her beloved son and daughter-in-law, and the many family and friends that visited her before her passing. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her loss is deeply felt by all who knew her.

Deloris was born in 1926 in Sheboygan to Lila and Ferdinand Miesfeld. Being the middle of three children, the other two being her brothers, the late Fred Miesfeld, and Gary Miesfeld of Sheboygan, Deloris was proud of her family and would regularly share childhood memories with joy and humor. Her youth was filled with family, friends, school activities and sports. She excelled in her classes, especially her business classes. She was an avid athlete, competing in baseball, basketball and bowling, while also enjoying ice skating. Sheboygan was more than Deloris’ hometown, it was her center. She loved the wind off the lake on a summer day, the taste of a good Miesfeld brat and the beauty of the first snow of winter.

After graduating from North High School, Deloris worked in a law office, insurance agency and eventually   found her calling as a public servant with the City of Sheboygan. There, throughout a multi-decade career, she worked in every department in city hall, from the city clerk’s office to the police department. Her colleagues were more like family to her, and even at 97 she could tell you the names of the police officers and people she worked with decades ago with warm memories and a smile on her face.

Not only did she find her calling as a public servant while working at city hall, she found the love of her life, her match, the late William Heins, while he worked in the city engineer’s office. Their life together was happy, full of family, and travel. A love of nature took them to Yellowstone, the Dakota’s and other national parks. Her favorite destination was up to Rhinelander every year for a family getaway during the summer. Together, Bill and Deloris had one child: Bill Heins. Bill was the center of their life from the moment he was born.

Her family expanded when she became a grandmother to twins. She taught them her love of Sheboygan, nature and of course sports. A loving grandmother, her memory and her traditions will live on in them.

Deloris loved her friends and family deeply. Her nieces and nephews, cousins and people who she adopted as family, were all very important to her. She showed you how important you were, by sharing a talk, a hug, a prayer, or a laugh. She loved them all.

She was an active member at Luther Memorial Church for 55 years, devoting her time and energy to her faith. Pastor Barkley provided Deloris with spiritual support over the years, including being with her and praying with her just prior to her passing.

The family would like to thank Sheboygan Senior Community’s organization and staff for their love, care, and support of Deloris over the past few years. She enjoyed their many activities, especially bingo and getting a tan in the sunny courtyard.

Deloris was preceded in death by her husband, William Heins, brother Fred Miesfeld, and parents Ferdinand and Lila Miesfeld. She is survived by her son William Heins (Tracy), grandsons William and Bradley Heins, brother Gary Miesfeld (Joanne), as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
