Doris M. Buteyn, 86, of Sheboygan, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 29, 2021 with her family by her side at Sheboygan Senior Community. She was born July 31, 1934 in Sheboygan to the late Daniel and Cora (Blok) Van De Wege. Doris attended Sheboygan Christian School and graduated from Sheboygan North High School and then furthered her education and received her certificate as an LPN.
On June 15, 1956 she was united in marriage to the love of her life Arthur Buteyn at Christ Community Church. They celebrated 61 years together. Arthur preceded her in death on November 3, 2017.
Doris was born into First Christian Reformed Church and joined the church at the age of 18. She had a strong faith and a passion for music, she sang in all the choirs and worked with the radio broadcaster to line up the songs for the weekly service broadcasts. Doris was also very active in the church serving on the luncheon committee and enjoyed volunteering at the Sheboygan Christian School. She had a heart of gold and enjoyed working with people. She was an LPN early on in her career, and then went on to be Dr. Bassewitz’s receptionist for many years, retiring in 1996.
Doris was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a very talented seamstress; even making outfits for the many porcelain dolls she made. Her family was her pride and joy. She loved spending time with them creating lasting memories.
Doris is survived by five children: Keith (Tammy) Buteyn, Kent (Sue) Buteyn, Karl (Kelly) Buteyn, Karla (Mike) Engbers, and Kristine (George) Doorn, by eighteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and a sister Joan Otten. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arthur, son Kurt Buteyn, two sisters: Kathy Van De Wege, and Marlene Van De Wege, and two infant brothers.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Christ Community Church, 428 Geele Ave., Sheboygan, with Pastor Joshua Van Engen officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Kohler. Due to Covid-19 the following precautions will be in place, the wearing of masks will be required and social distancing of 6ft will be observed.
