Dorothy E. Matt, 93, of Sheboygan, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2017 at Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls. Dorothy was born November 17, 1923 in Sheboygan to Fred and Anna (Freibus) Ehler. On May 11, 1941, she was united in marriage to the love of her life Clifford Matt. He preceded her in death on September 27, 1979.
Dorothy worked at Sunny Ridge Nursing Home in the housekeeping department. After retiring in 1989, she continued as a volunteer. She has been a member of Immanuel Bible Church for the past 77 years, and served in many capacities during that time.
Dorothy was known for her hospitality and great cooking. She never turned anyone away, and no one ever left her table hungry. Many were sheltered under her roof. She loved to shop, and hadn't missed a girls shopping trip even in her 90's. Dorothy never passed up an invitation to travel and went on many trips. Her family was her pride and joy, and creating memories with them was her favorite past time.
Dorothy is survived by her children; Jerry (Kathy) Matt of Proctorville, OH, Jim (Joanne) Matt of Oostburg, Patti (Warren) Clemens and Vicki (Jim) Theune both of Sheboygan Falls, son-in-law Jerome Pitz of Sheboygan Falls, thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a brother David Ehler of Sheboygan, and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clifford, daughter Jean Pitz, granddaughter Rachel Matt, sisters Ida and Minnie, and brothers Fred, Alex, John, and Christ.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Bible Church, 2428 Superior Ave. Sheboygan, with Rev. Jerry Matt and Pastor Curtis Lamansky officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Immanuel Bible Church, 2428 Superior Ave., and again on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Dorothy's name.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sharon Richardson Community Hospice and Pine Haven Christian Home for their care and concern for Dorothy and her family.
