Dr. Richard "Dick" Earl Hill died on May 18, 2016 in Port Charlotte, FL. He was born March 30, 1929 in Clintonville, WI to Lyle Earl Hill and Gladness Josephine Hill (nee Sargent, adopted Love). In his early life, he attended schools in Colby, WI, Marshfield, WI and Peoria IL. He was a graduate of Carroll College in Waukesha, WI and McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago.
Dick was ordained as a Presbyterian pastor in 1956 and served churches in Grand Ridge, IL, Winneconne, Galesville, and Stevens Point, WI. Later, he was elected to the Board of Trustees of Carroll College and became the assistant to the president. He was President of Huron College, Huron SD from 1974 - 77. He served as President of Lakeland College near Sheboygan, WI, retiring after 14 years of service in 1991.
In retirement, Dick and Marilyn resided in Elkhart Lake, WI and then the Deep Creek area of Port Charlotte, FL. In 2002 they moved into South Port Square in Port Charlotte, FL.
Dick was an avid golfer and loved to sing. He sang in the Pilgrim UCC Church choir and organized and directed the South Port Singers chorus as well. Dick also served for many years as a Guardian ad Litem in Southwest Florida during his retirement. He was a longtime fan of the Green Bay Packers and cheered for them every chance he had.
Dick and his wife Marilyn (nee Thompson) were married in 1951. He will be sorely missed by his wife Marilyn and his five adult children and their respective families: Mark Richard Hill (Patricia) of Jacksonville, FL, Kenneth Leonard Hill (Susan) of Ripon, WI, Richard Earl Hill, Jr. (Lynn) of Glenbeulah, WI, Joy Anne Hill Williams (Gary) of Fort Myers, FL, Sarah Jean Hill Pasierb (Patrick) of Washington, MO. Surviving members include their 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at Pilgrim United Church of Christ on Rampart Blvd in Port Charlotte, FL on Thursday, May 26, at 2:30 PM and a Memorial Service will be held in the Ley Chapel at Lakeland College W3809 North Drive, Plymouth, WI on Thursday, June 2 at 1:30 PM. Private burial will be in the Immanuel UCC Church Cemetery near the college, which is in the Town of Herman.
