Elaine Holman

Elaine L. Holman, age 88, of Sheboygan, died Wednesday evening, January 14, 2015 as a result of a fall in her home. She was born April 6, 1926 in Milwaukee to Herman and Carrie Zarne. She was a graduate of Milwaukee Downer College and she received her master's degree in teaching from Lawrence University. On March 30, 1947 Elaine married David Holman. He preceded her in death on July 3, 2009. For more than thirty years Elaine was an English teacher at Sheboygan North High School. Her teaching responsibilities included acting as chair of the English department. In later years she was involved in the family's business, Joseph Holman & Sons Real Estate Corp. Elaine was a member of Congregation Beth El. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, mahjong, travel, cooking, and especially spending time with family and friends. She loved life and touched the hearts of many and will be dearly missed. Elaine is survived by two sons, Howard L. (Elizabeth) Holman of Chicago and Alan M. (Jodi) Holman of Mequon; two grandchildren, Hanna and Aaron; sisters-in-law, Pauline Zarne and Phyllis "Mitzi" Holman; nieces, Julie (Avie) Judes, Debra Zarne, Janet (Gregory) Schmeling, Susan (Carter) Hunnicutt, Patricia (Paul Mozina) Holman, and Sheila (Roger Nigg) Holman; and other family members. In addition to her husband, David, she was preceded in death by her brother, Monroe Zarne and two brothers-in-law, Manford Holman and Marvin Holman; her sister-in-law, Marion Holman; and her nephew, Brian Holman. Private burial was held at the Hebrew Cemetery in Kohler. Elaine invites all family and friends to a celebration of her life. The Open House Celebration will be held on Friday, January 30, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the American Club, Kohler, WI.
