Eleanor Winkelhorst, 106, of Sheboygan, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2015 at Sheboygan Senior Community. Eleanor was born September 9, 1908, in Sheboygan, to the late Peter and Maude (Bayens) Verhulst. She was educated in Sheboygan and Oostburg schools and graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa. Eleanor then worked at Calumet Dutch Canning Company until she was married. On June 18, 1934, she married Edwin Winkelhorst in Sheboygan. He preceded her in death in August of 1976. Eleanor worked at home, raising her three daughters. Family was extremely important to her and she valued her time spent with siblings, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She later was employed at Pranges as a sales clerk. Eleanor was an active member of Hope Reformed Church for many years. She also enjoyed time spent in her garden. Survivors include one daughter, Carol (Milt) Kuyers; one son-in-law, Roland Grabowski; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Betty (Donald) Verhulst. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Edwin, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Sandy Theune and Lauri Grabowski, son-in-law, Wayne Theune, six sisters and their spouses, four brothers and their spouses, one brother-in-law and three sisters-in-law and their spouses. A funeral service will be held for Eleanor on Friday, August 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Hope Reformed Church (612 Ontario Avenue, Sheboygan) with the Rev. Bill TeWinkle officiating. Friends may call on Friday, at the church, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at the Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorial donations can be given to Hope Reformed Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Sheboygan Senior Community for their efficient, professional, loving care.
