Eli M. Hovey, 11, of Sheboygan, passed away Friday, May 24, 2013 from an infection, at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. He fought a courageous and brave battle with leukemia since September of 2012. He was born on January 24, 2002 in Sheboygan, son of Michael and Kelly Hovey. Eli was a fifth grader at Lincoln-Erdman Elementary School and was looking forward to starting middle school in the fall. Eli had a passion for life and lived more life in his eleven years than most do in a lifetime. He touched the hearts and souls of all who came in contact with him. Eli loved science, art, music, playing the drums, trains, military planes, space, gardening, cooking and grilling, the Indianapolis Colts, soccer, card collecting, purple unicorns, hiking, fishing, biking, butterflies, catching leaves in the fall and LIFE. Eli was affectionately called E-PIE and Cookie by his friends. Eli is survived by his loving parents, Michael and Kelly and his awesome big brother, Evan, all of Sheboygan, his paternal grandparents, Carl and Mary Ann Hovey of Sheboygan, his aunt and uncle, Jill and Steve Van Wyk of Sheboygan, his cousins, Jon, Stacy, Grace and Jack Backus of Manitowoc. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and LaVonne Dassler, one uncle, Eric Hovey and a cousin, Shawn Van Wyk. A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a service to follow at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, (730 County Road PPP, Sheboygan Falls). Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park (6706 Superior Ave. Kohler) on Thursday, May 30th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Eli's family would like to say thank you to all the doctors and nurses at the H.O.T. Unit, MACC Clinic, PICU and Cardiac ICU at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin for all their caring, compassion and dedication they have shown for Eli. You are all truly a gift from God.
