Elizabeth Puy

March 30, 1933 — July 23, 2018

Elizabeth "Bette" A. Van Der Puy, age 85, of Sheboygan passed away peacefully on July 23, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving daughters and companion Lucy.
Bette was born in Sheboygan on March 30, 1933 to the late Dr. William and Royalin (Hargesheimer) Esser. She attended local schools and graduated from Central High School. On March 15, 1952 Bette married the love of her life, William Van Der Puy. He preceded her in death on May 13, 1998.
Bette enjoyed volunteering her time within the community, with Meals on Wheels, The Little Red School House and The Service Club. Bette was also involved in The Big Brothers Big Sister Program. She was also active within the YMCA, where she instilled her love of water and sports into her children. She found great joy in water skiing in Eagle River with her family. She was an avid golfer and was a member of Pine Hills Country Club. She was very proud of being a part of the Hole in One Club.
Bette is survived by a son Nick Van Der Puy of Mellin; two daughters, Liz (William) Schepp of Sheboygan and Amy (Todd) Schwoerer of Estero, FL; grandchildren, Jake, Bart, Katie (Gale) Norton, Jack, Jennifer (Kalen) Lind and Joseph (Rebecca DeCaro); great-grandchildren, Ashton, Brady, Brecklyn, Aria and Sullivan and a dear friend of 71 years, Norma Beyer. Also survived by nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Along with her husband, William, Bette was preceded in death by a son John; a grandson Wade Schepp; a great-grandson Greyson Joseph Schwoerer; a sister Barbara Scherer and a brother James Esser.
Following Bette's wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date. She will be laid to rest at Wildwood Cemetery.
The family suggests any memorials to be made in Bette's name to The Mental Health America in Sheboygan County.
The family wishes to thank Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for the wonderful care and support given to them during this time. They would also like to thank Dr. Reenaben Patel for her kindness and the gentle care she showed for mom.
