Ellen Sixel age 89, of Saint Germain, WI and former longtime resident of Howards Grove, WI died Thursday July 24, 2014. She was born in the Town of Herman on August 12, 1924, a daughter of the late Oscar and Lula (Mueller) Gierke. On April 23, 1949 Ellen was united in marriage to LeRoy Sixel at Immanuel Church of Christ in the Town of Herman. The couple farmed until 1961 when they moved to Howards Grove, later moving to Eagle River in 1989. LeRoy preceded her in death in 1994. Ellen was a longtime employee of Ahrens Funeral Home (Later Zimmer Funeral Home), helping Mark Zimmer become established in the community after purchasing the Ahrens Funeral Home in 1983. She also had been a Nursing Assistant at Sunny Ridge Nursing Home until her retirement in 1989. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Town Herman where she had been active in the Women's Guild for many years, and was a former member of the Eagles Club #277. Surviving Ellen is her son, David (Fiancé' Vicki Schmolze) Sixel of St. Germain; one grandson, Michael (Alisha) Sixel of Stevens Point WI, a great-granddaughter Amahni Mae, and a sister, Delores (Harold) Kammerer. and best friend Pete Willemsen of St. Germain. In addition to her husband and parents, Ellen was also preceded by three sisters. Friends may call at Zimmer's Westview Funeral & Cremation Care Center W2132 Garton Road (Highway 42 and County JJ) Sheboygan on Wednesday July 30, 2014 from 3 p.m. until time of service at 6:00 p.m. Reverend Frederick Trost, pastor of Immanuel United Church of Christ will officiate. Interment will be in Immanuel Cemetery, Town of Herman. Memorials have been established in her name.
