Elmer G. Pieper, age 91, a resident of Pine Have Christian Home and long-time Howards Grove resident, died Tuesday January 22, 2013. He was born March 29, 1921 in the town of Herman, a son of the late Otto and Emma (Sprenger) Pieper. Elmer attended Millersville School. On June 16, 1945, Elmer married the former Carol Berg at Bethlehem Church in Sheboygan. Elmer worked on the family homestead farm, which he later owned and operated for 13 years. He had also been employed at Bitter-Neumann until retiring in 1989. Elmer and Carol enjoyed going out for breakfast followed by car rides into the country. They enjoyed various card clubs with many friends. Elmer was a life member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Howards Grove, where he had served on the church council. Elmer was known as a historian of Millersville and Howards Grove, and provided information to those people that needed questions answered on the village, or its residents. He loved his family and was very proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carol preceded him in death on March 31, 2010. Survivors include one son, Richard Pieper and special friend Judy Goeks; one daughter, Debbie (Steven) Schueler; eight grandchildren, Jason and special friend Jaime, Joshua and special friend Stephanie, Jonathon and special friend, Amanda, Jeremy and Jesse Pieper. Matthew (Ashley) Schueler, Tiffany (Andrew) Schnelle and Andrew (Cassandra) Schueler; four great grandchildren, Taylor, Owen and Bryce Schnelle, Madilyn Schueler; one step-great grandson, Cainen Hynek, three brothers-in-law, Charles Berg, Daniel (Pat) Berg and Clifford (Karen) Berg; two sisters-in-law, Charmaine Baumann and Phyllis (Donald) Mueller. Elmer was also preceded in death by one brother, Ernst (Ruth) Pieper, an infant grandson; one daughter-in-law, Sharon Pieper; one brother-in-law, Benjamin (Cathy) Berg Jr.; one sister-in-law, Betty (John) Behrens Sr.; one brother-in-law, Alfred Baumann Sr.; one sister-in-law, Laverne Berg. A funeral service will be held Friday January 25, 2013 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church (441 Millersville Ave.) Howards Grove, with Pastor Tom Unke officiating. Friends may call on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Pine Haven, Dr. Pat Marsho, St. Nicholas Hospital Home Hospice and Pastor Tom Unke, along with special friends and relatives who came to visit.
