Erma Koepsell

December 26, 1919 — October 21, 2016

Erma J. Koepsell, 96, of Sheboygan, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Friday, October 21, 2016 at her home. On November 26, 1919 Erma was born to William J.E. and Emily (Wilton) Parker in Manitoba Canada. On March 11, 1948 she was united in marriage to the love of her life Walter J. Koepsell Jr. at First Methodist Church in Sheboygan. Walter preceded her in death on January 21, 1977.
The couple resided in Sheboygan and enjoyed golfing, family events and vacations. Erma was an active 50 year member of First Congregational Church, volunteering on various committees. She had a Heart of Gold and was always giving her time to various organizations in the community including: Reins Therapeutic Riding, The United Way, the Mead Public Library ,Sunny Ridge Nursing Home and The Sheboygan Service Club.
Erma was employed at the C Reiss Coal Company as a secretary, and also worked at the JJ Koepsell Company.
Not only did she have a strong faith, she was a loving and attentive mother and wife, and had a heartfelt devotion to her son Toby. She was also a fighter and survivor of both Breast and Colon Cancer. Erma enjoyed being active golfing, bowling, and swimming. Extremely talented at knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint, she generously gave many homemade blankets and needlepoints to family, friends, and community organizations. Erma and Walter were members of bridge clubs, The Sheboygan Dance Club and Pine Hills Country Club. In later years, she enjoyed playing bridge with her nieces Lynn Skelton and Emily Louise Fuller.
Erma is survived by her children; Walter John Koepsell III, David (Colleen) Koepsell, Mark (Janet) Koepsell, Betty (Gary) Szatkowski and Toby Koepsell, by her grandchildren; Courtney (Tyler) Mars, Kelly (Matt) Brehm, Katherine (Chris) Stinton, Christy (Michael) Geschke, Kendel (Ryan) Foley, Jacob (Lisa) Koepsell, Austin (Lynne) Szatkowski, and Jesse (Ashley) Szatkowski, by her great-grandchildren; Taylor Zavodnick, Keagan Stinton, Sadie , Samuel, and Silas Brehm, Sailor and Farrah Mars, Harper and Ashlyn Foley, Tucker, Smith, and Dax Geschke, Grace ,Parker, and Emerson Koepsell, and Cora Szatkowski, and by her dear friend and sister-in-law Adele Stillwell. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Erma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter, son Paul Koepsell, brothers Randolph and George Parker, and sisters; Gwendolyn Nordquist, Clare Filkin, Louise Rust, Marjorie Mitchell, and Evelyn Gottsacker.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday December 4, 2016 at 4:00 PM, at First Congregational Church, 310 Bluff Ave. Sheboygan, with Rev. Jim Hollister and Rev. Julia Hollister officiating. Inurnment will take place at Wildwood Cemetery on Monday, December 5, 2016. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Saturday, December 3, 2016 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Ballhorn Chapels Funeral & Cremation Care Center 1201 N. 8th St. Sheboygan.
Memorials may be made to The Memorial Fund of the First Congregational Church in Erma's name.
