Eunice S. Goettel, 96, of Sheboygan, entered eternal life on Saturday, January 21, 2023. The oldest of six children, Eunice was born on February 12, 1926 to Lawrence and Martha (Midtlien) Ekern in Vernon County. She was a 1945 graduate of Westby High School and Sheboygan County Teachers College. For a number of years, she was a school secretary at Sheboygan Falls elementary and Jr. High.
On August 17, 1947 she married her high school sweetheart, Fredzell E. Goettel. Their marriage was blessed with three children. The couple moved to Sheboygan in 1951. Fritz preceded her in death in 1993.
Eunice was a faithful member of First United Lutheran Church. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed many interests including reading, traveling, gardening. She was a longtime quilter at church.
Survivors include her children, Steven (Mary) of San Antonio, TX, Kari (Terry) Litz of Mequon, and Eric of Sheboygan, grandchildren, Christopher of Austin, TX, Gregory of San Francisco, CA, Ericka (Charles) DeShong of Thiensville, Kyle (Rachel) Litz of McFarland, Bryan (Brie) Litz of Oconomowoc, great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Charles DeShong, Annalise and Wyatt Litz, Hudson Litz and a baby girl due in May. Also surviving are sister Joan Anderson of Westby, sister-in-law Eleanor Ekern of Coon Valley, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Eunice was preceded in death by four brothers, Merlyn (Carol), Gordon, Richard (Ilene), and Burton, and brother-in-law LeRoy Anderson.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM at First United Lutheran Church, 2401 Kohler Memorial Dr., Sheboygan, with Rev. Tina Kieckhafer officiating. Inurnment will follow and Greenlawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Peace Mausoleums in Kohler. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Friday, January 27, 2023 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the CHURCH.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First United Lutheran Church in Eunice’s name.
