Father Wilimek

Father Louis John Wilimek, age 89, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, January 28, 2015. He was born December 5, 1925 in Cudahy to his late parents, John and Frances (Kafunek) Wilimek whom were of Bohemian decent and came to the US in their teens. Louis attended St. Joseph's Grade School in Cudahy, Pio Nono High School and received his B.A. at St. Francis Seminary. He continued his education at Marquette University and Notre Dame. Father Louis was ordained February 19, 1950 at St. Francis Seminary by Archbishop Moses E. Kiley. His first assignment was Administrator at St. George's Syrian Eastern Uniate Church, Milwaukee in 1950. He was Associate Pastor of St. Joseph's, Cudahy from 1950-1959, and taught at St. Mary's High School in St. Francis. He served with Fr. Harold O'Connor at St. Francis de Sales, Lake Geneva from 1959 -1971. There Louis was Administrator of the School and member of the Walworth County Marriage Counseling Service. He also was on the Executive Board of the Lake Geneva Citizens Committee and participated on the Youth Council. He served at St. John Evangelist Parish in Kohler from February 9, 1971 until June 19, 2001. His work included ministry to the homebound and nursing care facility residents. Fr. Louis had a passion for teaching and helping others through his counseling. His spiritual guidance and direct nature impacted the lives of many. Fr. Louis declined an offer to play basketball at Marquette University, but had a lifelong love of the team. He also enjoyed cooking and was frequently seen at St. Nicholas Hospital with his "lunch bunch." Fr. Louis is survived by one niece, Carol Schmidkunz, three nephews, Louis Boltik, Tom Boltik and Gene Wilimek, friends Eileen Mischock, Andrew and her entire family, and many other friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Rev. B.J. Wilimek who served as Pastor of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Parish in Sheboygan until the time of his sudden death in 1964; John Wilimek; and his sisters, Mary Boltik and Frances Wilimek. Visitation will be on Sunday, February 1 at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 Green Tree Road, Kohler from 1:00 PM until time of Vigil Service at 3:00 PM. Continued visitation will be on Monday, February 2 at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM with the Most Reverend Jerome Listecki, Archbishop of Milwaukee; The Most Reverend Bishop Emeritus Richard Sklba; Reverend Robert Lotz, Pastor and many brother priests presiding. Committal will be on Monday at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Cudahy at 3:00 PM. A special thanks to the Embrace Care Management Team, Drs. Mark Bettag, Gregory Grose, Charles Schleevogd and all the doctors, nurses and medical assistants for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to St. Vincent DePaul Society, Catholic Relief Services or charity of your choice.
