Florence Jensema

Florence C. Jensema, age 92, of Sheboygan, went home to her Lord Tuesday afternoon, June 3, 2014 at Harmony West in Sheboygan. She was born November 25, 1921 in Sheboygan to John and Magdalena (Vercouteren) Otte. She attended both Sheboygan Christian and Sheboygan Central High schools. On August 6, 1943 Florence and Donald Jensema were united in marriage at First Christian Reformed Church. Donald preceded her in death on April 20, 2010. As a young woman she helped her family by working at Vollrath Co. making canteens for the war effort. Later she was employed at H.C. Prange Co., retiring in 1983. Florence was a faithful member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church and a member of Sheboygan Christian School Auxiliary. She was a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed cooking and decorating beautiful wedding and birthday cakes. She enjoyed going to the Sheboygan Senior Center where she created beautiful ceramic pieces for her family. She is survived by four children, Sandra (Ralph) Katt of Sheboygan, Donna (James) Medlin of Riverside, CA, Larry (Diane) Jensema of Oregon, WI, and Patricia (Richard) DeJong of Orland Park, IL; eleven grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald (Audrey) Otte and Donald (Mary Ann) Otte all of Sheboygan; three sisters, Rachel Rademaker of Oostburg, Diane (Carl) Joosse of Hingham, and Judie (Ernie) Meise of Sheboygan; sister-in-law, Ethel Otte and brother-in-law, Carl TeWinkel both of Sheboygan; and other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth (Les) Klujeski and Lois TeWinkel; two brothers, Carl Otte and Robert Otte; one granddaughter, Amy DeVries; two great-granddaughters, Johanna Katt and Joy Medlin; and her dear friend, Wilma Timm. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday June 16, 2014 at Calvin Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Peter Verhulst will be the officiant. A time of visitation and support will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Florence's family would like to extend their thanks to the entire staff at Harmony West and Aurora VNA Hospice for their care and compassion. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
