Gary L. Yurk, 77, of Sheboygan, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls. He was born May 25, 1945 in Sheboygan to the late Frederick and Edna (Kempf) Yurk. Gary graduated from North High School, Class of 1963.
On July 2, 1966 he was united in marriage to Mary Neumann at Trinity Lutheran Church Sheboygan and together they celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Gary worked as a Foreman in the Pottery Division at the Kohler Company and retired in 2007. He had a strong faith and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheboygan and served the church in numerous ways.
Gary was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and following all sports from high school to college to the pros. He was excellent at sports trivia and could be found on any given weekend cheering on the Packers and Badgers. Gary also enjoyed playing cribbage, sheepshead and gin. Family was very important to him. He loved spending time with them camping in Potawatomi Park and vacationing in Door County, creating many cherished and lasting memories with them.
Gary is survived by his wife Mary, sons Thomas (Janel) Yurk and Michael (Joy) Yurk; grandchildren Rebekah, Benjamin, Caleb, Aaron, Micah, and Sophia, brother Richard (Karen) Yurk of High Point, NC, sister JoAnne Meinschock of Delavan, sister-in-law Bonnie Neumann of Sheboygan, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Frederick Yurk and Edna Zahn, brothers Jerome (Joan) Yurk and Robert (Patricia) Yurk, and brothers-in-law Al Meinschock and Robert Neumann.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 23, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 824 Wisconsin Ave., Sheboygan, with Pastor Timothy Mech officiating. Inurnment will take place at Lutheran Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Friday, December 23, 2022 from 12:00 Noon until the time of service at the CHURCH. If you are unable to join the family for the service, it will be livestreamed on Gary’s obituary page on the funeral home website.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Gary’s name.
The family would like to thank the staff of Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for the exceptional care they gave to Gary and his family, and to Pastor Mech and Pastor Berg, and all of our family and friends for their care, compassion and support.
