George S. Riemersma, age 89, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016. His life began March 11, 1927 in Surhuisterveen, The Netherlands. It was there he met Hendrika "Rita" M. Hesselink, whom he married on January 4, 1949. One month after their wedding they moved to South Africa, where they lived for six years. In 1955, George, Rita, their three children, and one on the way, reunited with George's family, who had immigrated to Sheboygan. George was the Owner/President of Ross Business Machines Inc., retiring at the age of 68. During retirement he enjoyed visiting his children and family, spending winters in Florida, and playing golf.
George was a Charter Member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church, and served as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Bible group leader and choir member. He was active in Sheboygan Christian Grade School, High School, and served on the Board of Trustees of Christian Schools International and Kuyper College.
George was a life time member and served as president of the Salvation Army Advisory Board.
George is survived by his wife, Rita, four children, Rita M. (Mike) James, Joan I. (Roy) Van Wyck, Len T. (Yvonne) Riemersma, Dirk W. (Mary) Riemersma, eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his brother, Robert Riemersma, sisters, Bela VanDaalen and Jean (Dirk) VanDer Steen, brother-in-law, Peter Otte, sisters-in-law, Rodell Riemersma and Eloise Riemersma.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Lenze and Judith (nee Van Der Veer) Riemersma, grandson, Brant Van Wyck, his parents-in-law, Dirk and Hendrika M. (nee Quint) Hesselink, infant sister, Frederika M. Riemersma, sisters, Sieta (Dick) Hiemstra, Frances Otte, brothers, Andrew (Tine) Riemersma and Albert M. Riemersma, sister-in-law, Janet Riemersma and brother-in-law, Gerrit VanDaalen.
A Celebration of George's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Calvin Christian Reformed Church, 2313 Saemann Avenue, Sheboygan. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church on Friday, October 21, from 4-7 p.m. and at the church Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Sheboygan Christian High School, Salvation Army, Calvin Christian Reformed Church, Kuyper College and Bethany Christian Services.
