Gerald Athorp

Gerald W. Athorp, 91, formerly of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at his winter home in Mission, TX. Gerald was born December 16, 1924, in Sheboygan, to the late Arthur and Meta (Gosse) Athorp. On April 27, 1946, he married the former Verna Winkel at St. Johns United Church of Christ, Schwarzwald. She preceded him in death on April 24, 2006. Gerald owned and operated Gerald Athorp Milk Trucking for 49 years. He also was a lifelong farmer. Gerald enjoyed playing cards and building and repairing equipment. He also enjoyed his many winters spent in Texas.
Gerald is survived by one son, Lloyd Athorp (fiance Maureen); Todd (Steph) Athorp, Lisa Athorp, Kurt (Lesa) Athorp, Scott (Carolyn) Athorp, Lana Athorp; four great-grandchildren, Tierney Athorp, Kira and Avia Athorp and Hunter Athorp; his special friend Beverly Smith.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Ann Zimmerman.
A funeral service will be held for Gerald on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Johns United Church of Christ, Schwarzwald (W3401 Orchard Road, Elkhart Lake) with the Rev. Melinda Feller officiating. Friends may call on Thursday, January 7, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Zimmers Westview Funeral and Cremation Care Center (Hwy 42 JJ, Howards Grove). Visitation will continue on Friday, at the church, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at St. Pauls Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in Geralds name.
