GySgt Lulow

July 21, 1935 — October 2, 2015

GySgt Melvin Lulow, USMC Retired has accepted his final orders and has joined fellow Marines to guard the streets of heaven for eternity. Mel was born July 21, 1935 to Charlie Hattie (Beagle) Lulow in Rushville, NE. Mel felt it was such a privilege to serve this great nation for 21 years in the United States Marine Corps. After retiring from the Marines, Mel worked for a short time at Valley Truck Leasing and then worked at Penske Truck Leasing and retired in the early 90's. Mel had much to give after retirement so enjoyed years as a Red Cross Disaster relief worker, mainly doing damage assessment. He also enjoyed helping at the Plymouth Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels. Mel was a member of the American Legion Post #243. Mel is survived by his loving wife, Virginia "Ginny", having celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in July. Mel always said, with a twinkle in his eye, "Yes, the Marine Corps did issue me my wife." as they both met while each were serving at Camp Pendleton, CA. Mel is further survived by his sons, Michael and Mark (Margaret) Lulow; daughter Teresa Lerch, all of Sheboygan; six grandchildren, William, Jonathan and Matthew Lerch, Elizabeth Peaine, Katrina and Brandon Lulow; three great-granddaughters; one brother, Stanley (Florence) Lulow in The Dalles, OR; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, who over the years became every bit as close as any brother and sister could be and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mel was preceded in death by both parents, seven brothers and four sisters. A memorial service for Mel will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at Ballhorn Chapels and Crematory (1201 N. 8th Street, Sheboygan) with the Rev. DuWayne Hanke officiating. Friends may call on Saturday, at the funeral home, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, Mel requests memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund or to a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, Dr. Santhosh Kumar and the Oncology nurses and nurse navigator. They would also like to extend a very special thank you to the angels on 2K at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, who so lovingly and professionally cared for Mel and his family in his final days and moments and to Dr. Mansoor Mirza for his kindness and comfort to the family.
