Harold R. Velier, 89, of Sheboygan died on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Pine Haven in Sheboygan Falls. On March 14, 1927 he was born to William and Madeline (Dieleman) Velier in Sheboygan. Harold proudly served in the US Army from 1945 to 1947, and was stationed in Panama. On June 24, 1949 he was united in marriage to the love of his life Myrtle Kaat, she preceded him in death on November 12, 2006.
Harold worked as a heavy equipment operator with Gabe's Construction Company, and Falls Valley Excavating. Harold retired in 1992. He was a member of Netherlands Reformed Congregation. Harold enjoyed camping, doing puzzles, and spending time with his family.
Harold is survived by his eight children; Audrey (Rob) Zaletel, Robert (Jean) Velier all of Sheboygan, Kenneth (Debra) Velier of Plymouth, Joan Bohn of Sheboygan, Darlene (Steven) Meyer of Sheboygan, Jay (Linda) Velier of Rogersville, MO, Joy (Peter) Thielmann of Kiel and Rodney (Cindy) Velier of Sheboygan; thirty-five grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren and two on the way; He is further survived by brother-in-law Roy (Lora) Kaat, ,sister-in-law Marlene Wassink, also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Harold was preceded in death by his son-in-law Ron Van De Kreeke, grandson Rory Velier, great-granddaughter Ella Van De Kreeke, brothers; Eugene (Phyllis) Velier, and Howard( LaVerne) Velier, sisters-in-law; Dorothy (Earl) Teunissen, Caroline Van Stelle, Bonita (Arthur) Eslinger, Vivian (LeRoy) Miller, Leona Weimann and by brothers-in-law; Earl Kaat and Ronald Kaat.
A Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Ballhorn Chapels Funeral & Cremation care Center 1201 N. 8th St. Sheboygan, with Rev. E.C. Adams officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Monday, June 20, 2016 from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the FUNERAL HOME.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in his name for Ebenezer Christian School and Netherlands Reformed Congregation.
The family would like to thank the staff at Pine Haven and Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for all the care, comfort and support they gave Harold and his family.
