Helen Liebl

February 27, 1926 — February 5, 2017

Helen Jane "Janie" (Vasselos) Liebl, age 90, of Sheboygan, WI passed away on Sunday, February 5th at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. She was born February 27, 1926 in Sheboygan, the daughter of Ernest and Clara (Wonser) Vasselos.
Helen attended Grant Elementary School and graduated from Sheboygan North High School in the Class of 1944. According to her Senior Yearbook, she was described as "she knows that the best way to succeed is hard work." After graduating from high school, Helen attended the McDowell School of Costume Design & Fashion in New York, where she learned to tailor, make patterns and design. On June 26, 1950 Helen married Robert Gartman. Helen worked for her family real estate business, Vasselos Realty Company, and the family dry cleaning business, which included Quick Cleaners, Uptown Cleaners and 4-0 Cleaners.
On February 1, 1975 Helen married Robert H. (Bob) Liebl at First Congregational Church in Sheboygan. Helen was the Secretary of T & L Realty and served on the Board of Directors of Sheboygan Paper Box Company. Helen and Bob enjoyed traveling the world with their friends the Johnson's, Mann's, Mott's and Rudolph's, ski trips out west and in Europe with their dear friends Victor & Ilse Muehleis, winters in Sarasota with their University Park friends, and summers at the family cottage in Elkhart Lake. Helen was an avid gardener, took pride in her gourmet cooking, enjoyed bowling at Sopetto's and the Elks Club, tennis at the Sports Core, and golf at Riverdale and Pine Hills Country Clubs. She enjoyed her NEWGA travel team and was a member of the Hole in One Club at Pine Hills, with a hole in one on #14. Helen was an avid bridge player and also enjoyed her penny a point gin rummy games with Bob. Over the past ten years, Helen lived at Landmark Square, where she was on the welcoming committee and enjoyed coffee, puzzles, cards and dominoes with her newfound friends there. Helen's pride and joy were her grandchildren, Sami, Andrew, Alex, K.D. and Abbie. She was so proud of their accomplishments and would light up when she was able to share time with them. She loved her family, she loved her friends, and she loved her country.
Helen is survived by her daughter Gail (Gartman) Markiewicz and son-in-law Arthur Markiewicz of Encinitas, CA; step- daughter Martha Kemp and son-in-law John Kemp of Oconomowoc, WI and grandson Andrew Kemp of Palo Alto, CA; step-son Jack Liebl and daughter-in-law Pam Liebl of Sheboygan, WI, granddaughters Samantha Liebl and K.D. Liebl of Sheboygan, WI; step-daughter Mary Deweese and son-in-law Dr. Joel Deweese of Santa Barbara, CA; step-son Thomas Liebl and daughter-in-law Lisa Liebl of Sheboygan, WI, grandson Alexander Liebl of Minneapolis, MN and granddaughter Abigail Liebl of Milwaukee, WI. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Robert Liebl, brother Donald Vasselos, brother Edward Vasselos, sister-in- law Helen (Zaikowski) Vasselos, as well as many dear friends and relatives.
A memorial service for Helen will be held on Friday, February 10th at 11:30 a.m. at First Congregational Church 310 Bluff Avenue, Sheboygan. A time of visitation will precede the service, beginning at 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are being received for the Robert H. Liebl and Victor E. Muehleis Scholarship Fund at Lakeland University, Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, First Congregational Church, or the charity of the donor's choice. Special thanks to the medical staff at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center and the care givers at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for the loving care provided to Helen in the past few weeks. Ballhorn Chapels is assisting the family.
