Helmut Lohoff

Helmut W. Lohoff, 87, of Sheboygan, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Golden Living Center in Sheboygan. He was born June 15, 1928 in Germany to Heinrich and Fredia (Husmeier) Lohoff. In Germany he received his education, proudly served in the German Infantry and held several different jobs; working as a tin smith, repairing the railroads, and working in the mines. On April 15, 1950 he was united in marriage to the love of his life Lore Husmeier in Germany. Helmut and Lore celebrated 58 years of marriage. In 1953 they moved to Cleveland with their daughter Brigitte. Lore preceded him in death on October 2, 2008.

Helmut worked for the Kohler Company for over 30 years. He also worked in the maintenance department at Willow Glen Academy. He was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, serving as trustee for many years, and the Concordia Singing Society, maintaining the Club House for many years. A Jack of all Trades, Helmut was a talented woodworker, enjoyed nature and gardening, and taking trips "Up North" to spend time with his son and family. Going to Milwaukee and cheering on the Milwaukee Braves, and later the Brewers was a highlight of his summers.

Helmut is survived by his children; John (Kristyn) Lohoff of Arbor Vita, Christine (Karl) Schwanke of Sheboygan, and Brigitte (Paul) Sorensen also of Sheboygan, by grandchildren; Alicia, Anna, Alena, and Kady Lohoff, Trevor (Amy) Schwanke, Timothy (Andrea) Schwanke, and Nicholas Sorenson, great-grandchildren; Addisyn, Teagen, and Alexia Schwanke, by his sister Waltrud Bruggmann of Germany, and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lore, and a sister Hilda Raukohl.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church 1127 Eisner Ave. Sheboygan, with Pastor Matthew Peters officiating. Private family inurnment will take place at Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Friday, May 20, 2016 from 1:00pm until the time of service at the CHURCH.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Helmut's name.
