Hendrika Riemersma

Rita M. Riemersma, age 92, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls.

Rita was born February 3, 1924, in The Hague, The Netherlands. She married George S. Riemersma on January 4, 1949. One month after their wedding, they moved to Potchefstroom, South Africa, where they lived for six years. They immigrated to Sheboygan, WI in 1955 with their four children.

Rita and her husband, George, were Charter Members of Calvin Christian Reformed Church. She sang in the church choir, and served as a Sunday school teacher. She was involved in the church's Bible groups and special needs committee. She volunteered for Birth Right and the Salvation Army.

She was employed at Saint Nicholas Hospital as a Nurse's Aide in the Pediatric Department.

Rita is survived by her four children, Rita M. (Mike) James, Joan I. (Roy) Van Wyck, Len T. (Yvonne) Riemersma, Dirk W. (Mary) Riemersma, eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

She is further survived by her brother, Johan (Annie) Hesselink, brothers-in-law, Bernard Nusselder, Robert Riemersma and Peter Otte, sisters-in-law, Jannie Hesselink, Ena Hesselink, Bela VanDaalen, Jean (Dirk) Vander Steen, Rodell Riemersma and Eloise Riemersma.
Rita was preceded in death by George, her husband of 67 years. She is further preceded by her parents, Dirk Willem and Hendrika (nee Quint) Hesselink, George's parents, Lenze and Judith (nee Van Der Veer) Riemersma, grandson, Brant Van Wyck, brothers, Theodore (Jannie), Ben, Arie and Dick (Jeanette) Hesselink and sister, Nellie Nusselder.

A Celebration of Rita's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016 Ballhorn Chapels, 1201 N. 8th Street, Sheboygan. A time of visitation and support will be held from 12:30-2:00 p.m. on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Sheboygan Christian High School and Bethany Christian Services (www.bethany.org).

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staffs of Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice and Pine Haven Christian Home for their loving care.

Rita will always be remembered as a woman of God who demonstrated a strong belief in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and a sincere love for her family and her church.
