Jacob Hermann

February 9, 1926 — January 12, 2018

On Friday morning, January 12, 2018, Jacob "Jake" Hermann, age 91, of Sheboygan, peacefully departed his earthly home to spend eternity in his heavenly home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Jake was born February 9, 1926 in Sheboygan to Gottlieb and Rose (Ertel) Hermann. He attended Trinity Lutheran Grade School and Sheboygan Central High School and then, at age 17, in 1943 he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served as a machine gunner in the Pacific Theatre including the islands of Saipan and Tinian. He was very proud, but humble of his service to his country and in 2010 he was fortunate to go to Washington D.C. with the Honor Flight. There were many tears shed and Jake told the Sheboygan Press that "it was about the best day of my life."
Following his honorary discharge, Jake worked at Garton Toy Co. for a number of years before beginning employment with Sheboygan Glass Co. until his retirement in 1991 as foreman of the welding shop.
Marriage vows were spoken by Jake and Helen Thieme at Our Savior's Lutheran Church on September 1, 1951. Their 50th wedding anniversary was celebrated with family and friends in 2001. Helen preceded Jake in death on July 17, 2004.
Jake was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on numerous committees over the years. He enjoyed watching all Wisconsin sports, but he greatly enjoyed playing "armchair quarterback" for the Green Bay Packers! Above all, he loved spending great times with his children and grandchildren. Jake considered his grandchildren his greatest blessing. They will always remember working with grandpa in his basement workshop.
He is survived by his son, Tim (Linda) Hermann and his daughters, Laurie (Mark) Wehner and Julie Lutze; his five grandchildren, Brad (Nicole) Wehner, Benjamin Wehner, Rebecca Wehner, Anna (Andrew) Bayliss, and Elizabeth (fiancé, Jessie Wilke) Lutze; his sister, Emma Thieme; his sisters-in-law, Shirley Thieme and Lorraine Hermann. He was Uncle Jake to many nieces and nephews and will be missed by all who know home.
In addition to his wife, Helen, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dave Hermann and Gottlieb (Katherine) Hermann, Jr.; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Sophie (Herman) Knop and Helen (Henry) Richter; his brothers-in-law, Richard Thieme and Roger Thieme; and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Timothy J. Mech, Senior Pastor, will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church Tuesday morning from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Lutheran Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name for Trinity Lutheran Church.
A very special thank-you to dad's angels at Harvest Home Assisted Living in Howards Grove and Heartland Hospice for their exceptional care to him and his family.
