James Hasenstein Sr. a redeemed sinner has gone home to his Redeemer Jesus Christ the Lord.
Jim was born October 8, 1939 to Edward and Virginia (Valdes) Hasenstein.
He attended Jefferson School and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1958.
Jim proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.
Jim excelled at sales with Tom McCann and 3M Corporation, later becoming a buyer with Melville Corporation. Upon returning to Sheboygan he worked with his father at Mayr Seed and Pet Supplies, which he eventually purchased with his brother-in-law Steve Schlehlein.
When Jim was with Tom McCann he met and married Virginia Keating. Jim and Virginia had two children together, James “Jamie” Hasenstein Jr. and Lisa. After 12 years of marriage, they parted ways and Jim moved back to Sheboygan where he met Diane Bord and they married in 1977.
Jim was an active member of The Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer serving as Council President, Elder, Sunday School and Catechism teacher.
Jim had been active in politics, the Master Gardener program, the Clean Sweep program and Kiwanis Club. He also enjoyed doing math facts with children in Heidi Gruetzmacher’s classroom at Cooper School where two of his grandchildren attended.
Jim is survived by his wife Diane; children James “Jamie” Hasenstein Jr. (special friend Tami Theobald) and Lisa (Chris) Poulsen; grandchildren, Zach, Hannah & Jack Poulsen, Jakob Wickert, Grace & Kameron Hasenstein. Also surviving Jim is his sister Deborah (Steve) Schlehlein; brothers Tim (Ruth) Hasenstein and David (Judy) Hasenstein; sister-in-law Laurel Hasenstein and brothers-in-law Mark Bord and Scott (Kris) Bord; nieces and nephews; and many cousins-in-laws.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ed and Ginny Hasenstein; his brother Stephen Hasenstein; father-in-law and mother-in-law Art and Jeannette Bord and sister-in-law Molli Bord.
A celebration of life service will be held at The Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer on Monday, April 15, 2024, with the Rev. Bryan Osladil officiating. Visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., with the service at 11:00am. Entombment will be private at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer or Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
The family would like to thank Dr. Matt Hemsing and Carrie for their care over the years. The Sharon S. Richardson team, Dustin Erdman, Joseph Zenk, Linda Wein and Mary Ann Wleklinski and Melissa Argue for their “special care” in our home. Thanks to Rev. Bryan Osladil for his special visits and prayers. We would also like to thank Henry, Harvey, Artie and Remi our neighborhood buddies who visited and entertained Jim regularly.
