James E. Hoffmann, 72, of Sheboygan, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center. Jim was born June 1, 1943, in Sheboygan, to the late Edmund and Agnes (Skrube) Hoffmann. He graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1961. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961 until 1964 and continued his service in the Army Reserve for an additional nine years attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. Jim spent 33 years serving the citizens of Sheboygan County with the Sheriff's Department where he was hired as a Deputy Sheriff and worked his way up through the ranks of Detective, Lieutenant of Detectives, Deputy Inspector and ending his career as the Director of Operations. In 1983, Jim graduated from the FBI National Academy 133rd Session at Quantico, Virginia. Jim's interests included fishing, listening to music, cooking and reading. He was especially proud of his Slovenian heritage and spent much time researching family history. He traveled to Europe several times, visiting Ireland, Germany, and Bavaria. He was a lifelong member of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Church, where he dedicated many hours of volunteer service. He loved canning and pickling vegetables, which he shared with friends near and far. He was especially proud of his grandchildren Ben and Hannah and took great joy in attending their activities. Jim is survived by his son Ty (Lisa) Hoffmann, Delafield, WI; his daughter Julie (Kenny) Abell, Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren Ben and Hannah Hoffmann; his brother, Jon (Bev) Hoffmann; two sisters, Judy (Phil) Thiel and Jane (Jim) Splittgerber, Sheboygan; his aunts, Dani (Ralph) Dottai, Mitz (Bob) Bartzen and Carol Skrube; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church (822 New Jersey Avenue, Sheboygan) with the Rev. Richard Cerpich as celebrant. Interment will follow at Greendale Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday, at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to: Fr. Richard Cerpich, Dr. Michael Brooks, Dr. Santhosh Kumar, Dr. Nicholas Draeger, Dr. Kevin Johnson, the staff at Golden Living Center, Terrace Place, Aurora Medical Centers, Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center and all of the people who brought Communion and visited. A memorial fund has been established for Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
