Jimbo was born to James Martin and Honey Lee Layton on December 27, 1965, at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan. He attended Sheboygan South High School. James worked several jobs over his lifetime, but he mainly worked as a handyman.
Jimbo loved any sport that he could play or watch. He was an avid bowler and was very skilled. He was known as an entertainer when he was pitching for his softball games. One of the more surprising things that Jimbo loved to do was to bake.
