Janet Freitag

Janet S. Freitag, age 70, of Howards Grove, died at her home Thursday morning, October 2, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her family. Janet was born April 6, 1944 to Gottlieb and Frieda (Mohr) Schmidt. She was a graduate of Sheboygan South High School, Class of 1962. On December 29, 1962 Janet was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Paul Freitag, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. Paul preceded her in death on October 1, 1994. For thirty years Janet was employed at Bemis Manufacturing, retiring in 2006. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Howards Grove. Janet loved the outdoors. She enjoyed bow hunting and fishing as well as gardening. She also took pleasure watching her favorite stray cats, birds, and the other various critters that would inhabit her backyard. Survivors are her children, Scott (Cathy) Freitag of Sheboygan Falls, and Julie (boyfriend, Jeffrey Basler) Platz of Howard Grove; four grandchildren, Megan Freitag, Matthew Freitag, Haleigh Platz, and Brent (Erica) Chapman; one great-granddaughter, Emma Chapman; two brothers, Bruce (Kenlyn) Schmidt and Mark (Deb) Schmidt all of Sheboygan. In addition to her parents and her loving husband, Paul, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bob Schmidt. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at Zimmer Westview Funeral Center, 2132 Garton Road, Howards Grove. Rev. Tom Unke, Pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Howards Grove, will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service. Entombment will take place Friday morning at Garden Terrace Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Janet's name. Janet's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and staff of Matthews Oncology as well as the nurses and staff at St. Nicholas Home Health Care & Hospice for their wonderful care and support.
