Jerry Voechting

Jerry H. Voechting age 73, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. He was born on March 10, 1942 in Sheboygan to parents Edwin and Milvina (Graus) Voechting. Jerry graduated from Central High in 1960. He served in the United States National Guard. Jerry was united in marriage to Marilee Sischo (Smith) on July 16, 1988. Jerry became a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 158 in April 1962. He completed his apprenticeship on April 10, 1967, working as a sheet metal journeyman for R.P. Honold Co. On April 10, 1973 Jerry was appointed Business Manager of Locals 158, 362 and 337. He was instrumental in their merger to form Local 42 on October 15, 1973 and the subsequent merger to form a statewide union, Local 18 on October 1, 1982. He was elected in 1974 and has been reelected eight times. During the past 29 years Jerry served in the following capacities: East Central WI Sheet Metal Joint Apprenticeship Committee - WI Joint Sheet Metal Apprenticeship Committee - WI State Building Trades Executive Board 1985-2001 - WI State AFL-CIO Conference of Business Representatives Board Member - VTAE Board 1981-1985 - Lakeshore Technical College Board 1981-2013, serving as chairman and assistant chairman - City of Sheboygan Parking and Transit Commission 1975-1987 - Sheboygan Area United Way Board 1981-1985 - WI Sheet Metal Health & Benefit Fund since its formation, serving as Chairman and Secretary - Sheboygan County Labor Council since 1973, serving as Recording Secretary, Vice President, and Financial Secretary - Sheboygan Building & Construction Trades Council since 1973, serving as Financial Secretary until the merger to form NorthEast WI Building & Construction Trades Council in 2001 - NorthEast WI Building & Construction Trades Council Executive Board Member - Dollars Against Diabetes Chairman - Town of Schleswig delegate to Manitowoc County Planning Board - Town of Schleswig Plan Commission Chairman - Cedar Lake Improvement Association President - Cedar Lake Constable - Sno-Birds Snowmobile Club. Jerry was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends at his home on Cedar Lake. Jerry will be remembered for living his life to the fullest. Jerry is survived by his loving wife Marilee; three children, Gary (Beverly) Voechting, Joy Krugel and Jeffrey Voechting; two step-children, Brian (Sarah) Sischo and Renee (Steve) Baker; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Jane (Virgil) Wanezek; special cousin, Brian Voechting; mother-in-law, Delores Smith; sister-in-law, Pam (Bob) Straus; brother-in-law, Gary Smith. Also survived by nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Earl Smith. A time of gathering and support will be held at Zimmer Westview Funeral and Cremation Care Center W2132 Garton Road (Hwy 42 & JJ) on Saturday, May 30 from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Memorial Service at 1:00 PM with Rev. Lorri Steward presiding. Private inurnment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials are appreciated to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice or Alzheimer's Association. The family would like to thank all the staff at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice and Ruth at Hope Inspired Home Care for their care and compassion.
