Joan Bowen

Joan M. Bowen age 68 of Sheboygan passed away Friday July 16, 2021 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls.

Joan was born on March 13, 1953 in Sheboygan to Gordon H. & Vivian (Heinen) Veldboom.  She graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1971. On September 9, 1989 she was united in marriage to Ron Bowen in Hawaii. Joan started her banking career at Citizens Bank, First Interstate, and Norwest and then retired as a mortgage clerk for Wells Fargo & Co. in 2000 after 30 years of service. She was a member of VFW Post 9156 Auxiliary and St. John’s United Church of Christ.

Joan is survived by her husband of 31 years Ron; her son, Travis (Annette Hepper) Sommer, 3 daughters, Jodi (Pete Zabel) Sommer, Judi Sommer & Kelly (Brad) Oppermann, 5 grandchildren; Brandon Sommer, Bristol & Mason Zabel, Tom & Will Oppermann, 1 great granddaughter; Melony Sommer; her mother Vivian Veldboom and one brother, Phillip (Beth) Veldboom. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Joan was preceded in death by her father, Gordon H. Veldboom; and 2 brothers, Darrel & Carl Veldboom.

A memorial service for Joan will be held on Friday July 23, 2021 at 4:30 pm at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1248 Lincoln Ave., Sheboygan. The Rev. Gregory S. Whelton will officiate. Relatives and friends are welcome at the church from 3:00 pm until the time of service.

Joan’s arrangements have been entrusted to Ballhorn Chapels Funeral & Cremation Care Center.
