John Arthur Federer, age 74, of Sheboygan, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 12, 1940 in Sheboygan to Milton and Frances (Braun) Federer. He attended local area schools and Sheboygan Central High School. On February 23, 1985 John and Margaret Mueller were united in marriage. Over the years John was employed at various industries in Sheboygan, including RCS, Sears, Sheboygan Paper Box Co. and Vinyl Plastics, retiring from there in 1999. John was a faithful, active member of St. John United Church of Christ in Sheboygan where he served on the building and grounds committee and was a member of the Men's Brotherhood Society. He enjoyed growing vegetables and gladly donated them to his church. He also was a willing volunteer at the Sheboygan Salvation Army where he helped serve meals. For over fifty years John enjoyed getting together with his childhood friends from Oakland Avenue which the Sheboygan Press featured in one of their photos. He also was a member of the Sheboygan Liar's Club and was active in the efforts to save Sheridan Park when it was in jeopardy. His hobbies include carving wooden animals which he donated to family and friends, and golfing, having shot a hole-in-one at Sunset Hills Golf Course. He also loved going up north to White Potato Lake where he enjoyed fishing and camping with his family and friends. He also liked to boast that he caught the largest Bass on Bone Lake. In addition to his wife, Margaret, he is survived by his children, Fred Balde, Thomas Federer, Denise (Steve) Perry, Donald (Dinah) Federer, Linda (Rick) Lauer, Richard (Sheila) Balde, Sharon Rickert, and David (Sarah) Balde; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; his brother, Jerry Federer; his sisters, JoAnn Wright and Judy (Doug) Peterson; two sisters-in-law, Terry (Wally) Weimann and Jo (Charles) Ford; and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen; his brothers, Milton and Jimmy; his mother-in-law, Theresa Daehnert and his brother-in-law, Allen Dale Wright. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 16, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at St. John United Church of Christ. Rev. Gregory S. Whelton, Pastor, will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund had been established in his name.
