John W. Fengler, age 95, of Sheboygan Falls, went home to his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 26, 2017 at Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls.
He was born December 20, 1921 in Rochester, Minnesota to Earl and Lucille (Hazleton) Fengler. He graduated from high school in Minneapolis and was a graduate of Lawrence University in Appleton in 1943. While in college John was a member of the varsity swim team , the Lawrence Letter Club and later the Lawrence Alumni Club. He was proud to have attended the 70th Jubilee Celebration at Lawrence in 2013.
During WWII John served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS Athene in the Pacific, earning two battle stars in the Iwo Jima Operation and the Okinawa Operation. While in the US Navy John was sent to Columbia University for Officer's Training. He was honorably discharged in 1946. In 2012 John was able to go on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.
On October 7, 1950 John and Jeanne DeLorme were united in marriage at Wesley United Methodist Church. Jeanne preceded him in death on February 15, 1995.
For over forty years John was involved with Sheboygan Warehouse and Forwarding Company. In 1994, as sole owner and president, he sold the business to Bill Schmidt Trucking Company. John was a member of the Warehousemen's Association of Wisconsin where he served as past president.
John was a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Parish in Sheboygan Falls. He was involved in numerous organizations including, Y's Men's Club, Sheboygan Noon Kiwanis, Elk's Club, the Sports Core, and the Yacht Club. His hobbies included watching his grandchildren's countless sporting activities, fishing, genealogy, and golfing. He was proud to have had a hole in one at Quit Qui Oc Golf Course. Above all, John enjoyed time spent with his family.
John is survived by three daughters, Katherine (James) Hermann, Jean Fengler, and Amy (William) Betke; four grandchildren, Michael (Lori) Hermann, David (Karre) Hermann, Robert Betke, and Elizabeth Betke; five great-grandchildren, Thomas, Nathan, Anna, Charles, and Zoe Hermann; his brother-in-law, John Leavitt, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, Jeanne, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Jean Leavitt and Fern Fengler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church by Fr. Bob Lotz. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church from 9:30 until the time of service. Burial will take place at Wildwood Cemetery.
John's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caring staff at Pine Haven Christian Home and Sharon S. Richardson Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name for Pine Haven Christian Home, Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
