John A. Friedl, age 66, of Sheboygan, WI passed away December 13, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.
John was born October 5, 1950 in Beaver Dam, the son of Arthur and Grace (nee Hess) Friedl. Upon graduating from Kiel High School in 1969, John enlisted into the United States Marine Corp (1970-1972) where he was a rifle expert and pistol sharpshooter. He was deployed to Vietnam where he was a field radio operator and mortar man.
On August 12, 1972, John married the love of his life Cynthia (nee Grapentine) Friedl. John and Cindy raised two children, Jennifer and Matthew, whom they were very proud of. John and Cindy enjoyed 44 years of marriage.
John was employed as a grinder for 44 years at Kohler Company, where he also served 14 years as an EMT. He retired in 2013.
John was an active member at Fountain Park United Methodist Church for many years, where he quietly volunteered his time and talents. He enjoyed all types of hunting, but his favorite was hunting whitetail deer in Antigo, WI with his family and friends. John was an avid golfer, and enjoyed his yearly trips to Florida with the guys. He loved gardening and "playing outside" with his wife Cindy, and never turned down a cup of coffee. Above all, John's children were his pride and joy, and he cherished his grandchildren. He supported them, and enjoyed attending school concerts, sporting events, and professional milestones for his children and grandchildren.
John is survived by wife Cindy, daughter Jennifer (fiancé Jayson Brendel) Brown, and son Matthew (Lisa) Friedl. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Emily, Ellie, Natalie and Brandon, brother and best buddy James "Jim" Friedl, brother-in-law Dennis (Mary) Grapentine and sister-in-law Nancy (Jody) Behnke, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A Memorial Services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Fountain Park United Methodist Church, 828 Erie Ave. in Sheboygan with full military honors to follow. Rev. Warren Waddell will officiate. The family will receive visitors at the church on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Kohler.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund, Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice or to Fountain Park United Methodist Church.
The family would like to thank Dr. Matthews and his wonderful staff, Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, and St. Nicholas Hospital for their compassionate care and support.
