John Kummer Jr.

John G. Kummer Jr. age 83, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Sunny Ridge Nursing Home due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Sheboygan, May 19, 1932 to parents John G. and Frances (Montgomery) Kummer. John graduated from Central High School in 1950, and attended the University of Wisconsin. He then enlisted in the U.S.A.F. and was stationed in Peterborough, England. John served as a ground control approach operator, or one of "God's Chosen Airmen" as he jokingly referred to them and attained the rank of Staff Sargent. It was during this time he met his future wife Freda, whom he married in 1955. Honorably discharged in 1956, John served his plumber's apprenticeship and joined his father's business J. Kummer Plbg & Htg of Sheboygan. Upon the death of his father John and his brother Walter assumed ownership and was very proud to be later joined by his two sons John and Michael. During his working years, John was a proud union member, serving on numerous committees. He enjoyed bowling and golf and was a former member of the Sheboygan Elks Club. John also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, attending their sporting events and concerts. John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Freda; daughter, Deborah (Nick) Jelich of Oconomowoc, WI; son, Michael Kummer of Sheboygan Falls, WI; former daughter-in-law, Lynn Kummer; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Katherine Jelich, Julie and John Kummer; brother, William (Jan) Kummer of Franklin, WI; sister-in-law, Joan (Walter) Kummer of Sheboygan. Other relatives include nieces, Lisa (Karl) Kvool of Sussex, WI, Lori (Vince) Russo of Elm Grove, WI, Kris (Ted) Hocevar of Sheboygan and all of their children. John was preceded in death by his parents, son John Charles and brother Walter. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, September 23 at 11:00 AM at Ebenezer U.C.C., 3215 Saemann Avenue, with Dr. Rev. Roger Mealiff presiding. A time of visitation and support at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers the family ask donations be made to John Kummer memorial fund. The family extends their thanks to Dr. Beiersdorf, the staff of Memorial Hospital, and to the caring and patient staff of Sunny Ridge.
