Joseph Salm

Joseph Isadore Salm, 75, of Newton, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at home after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer. Joe was born on March 18, 1939 in Eaton Township, Manitowoc County, the son of Nicholas and Hildegarde Schuler Salm. He graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1958. Joe married Marlys Ertel on July 29, 1961 at St. Wendel Church in Cleveland. He and his wife farmed in the town of Meeme for 40 years. Joe loved people in general, but especially his family. He enjoyed traveling, reading and going out for breakfast. He valued the time he spent in the volunteer work with Jehovah's Witnesses. Joe was a member of the East Manitowoc Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Survivors include his wife of almost 53 years, Marlys of Newton, and daughters Debbie (Adam Brown) Salm of Cary, Illinois and Rhonda (Jim) Schwoerer of Howards Grove; three step grandchildren, Kyle (Alison) Brown, Christopher Brown, and Sarah (Grey) Larson all of Des Moines, Iowa. He will be greatly missed by three sisters, Agnes Wagner, Mary Lou (Richard) Sixel, both of Sheboygan, and Carol (Elroy) Jaeger of Cleveland; five sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Salm of Sheboygan Falls, Nancy Salm of Cleveland, Carol Salm of Kiel, Mary Ann Salm of Cleveland, and Audrey Ertel of Howards Grove; one brother-in-law, Walter (Marilyn) Ertel of Appleton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his parents-in-law, Christ and Sophia (Gross) Ertel; four sisters, Gertrude Florian, Ruth Gill, Marie Langdon, and Mabel Henckel; seven brothers, Arthur, Andrew, Roman, Eugene, Donald, Francis and an infant brother, Robert Salm; ten brothers-in-law, Joseph Florian, James Wagner, George Gill, Robert Henckel, Bernie Langdon as well as Paul, Otto, Edward, LeRoy and Melvin Ertel. The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, July 11, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Zimmer Westview Funeral Home, W2132 Garton Road, Sheboygan. A private memorial service will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014. Per Joe's wishes, cremation has taken place. Inurnment at Greenlawn Memorial Park will take place at a later date.
