Joseph V. Tevsh, Jr. age 86, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at Terrace Place in Sheboygan. He was born December 22, 1930 in Sheboygan, a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Kofka) Tevsh. Joe was a 1948 graduate of Central High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve in June 1949, entering active duty in October of 1951. He was assigned to the U.S.S. Krishna during the Korean conflict, receiving his honorable discharge in June of 1954.
Joe moved to the Chicago area where he studied nursing at the Alexian Brothers Hospital School of Nursing, receiving his Bachelor Degree in 1958. He then went on to finish his schooling to become an Anesthetist at the University of Minnesota. On January 8, 1966, Nancy C. Hazen was united to Joseph V. Tevsh at St. Boniface Catholic Church in DePere. They took residence in Sheboygan, where Joe was a nurse anesthetist for Memorial Hospital. Nancy preceded him in death on December 5, 2009.
Joe and Nancy were very proud of the home they built in the town of Wilson. Together, they traveled with their family statewide as well as to Illinois to see their daughter and grandsons, Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada. He loved birdwatching, and was an avid filming hobbyist and photographer. He also had a passion for aviation, and was a longtime EAA member. He volunteered at the Sharon Richardson Community Hospice.
Surviving Joe is his daughter, Theresa Tevsh and her husband Paul Bouchard of Lake Barrington, IL; his son, Joseph Christian Tevsh of Sheboygan; three grandchildren, Brock and Benjamin Thoms, and Reese Tevsh; his sisters; MaryAnn (Stuart) Bawden and Sylvia Haneman of Sheboygan; Rose LeBlanc, Stephanie (Robert) Post and Jenny Starett of California; Liz Schweikert of Arizona; brothers Laddy Tevsh, Michael (LeAnn) Tevsh, both of Sheboygan, and many other relatives, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Joe was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Joe on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 11:00 am at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, 822 New Jersey Avenue Sheboygan. Reverend Richard Cerpich will be Celebrant. Friends may call at the Church on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of the Mass. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established to the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in the name of Joseph V. Tevsh, Jr.
